A man pushing obviously a young baby along in its pram in the town today.

You couldn't see the baby but there was a sign on the pushchair saying please don't touch or kiss the baby, then words I couldn't read. Then it said Thanks .

Reminded me of MN. I know its been discussed.
Never seen a sign on the pram though, telling people, has anyone else?
Did even know they made them.

Imagine being that parent. 🙄

Bombshelter · 08/10/2025 19:05

The baby might’ve been premature I suppose or be immunocompromised

There may be a very good reason for it. Imagine the baby is immuno compromised in some way or comes from a household where they need to limit exposure to infections.

Hold your judgement until you know all the facts.

Imagine being THAT person who thinks it’s fine to touch or kiss a STRANGERS baby unsolicited…. Crazy.

VikaOlson · 08/10/2025 19:07

A mum at school had one of these hanging off her pram, said something like "I'm a Premature Baby - please don't touch or kiss me"

Evenstar · 08/10/2025 19:08

I have seen them online as below, but never on a pram. I agree that the baby could be premature or vulnerable or the parents may be very anxious due to all the publicity this year about RSV

My first impression would have been to roll my eyes but if the baby has got health issues that could be exacerbated by touching I suppose it makes it clear from the outset and saves the parents having to explain themselves.

BananaCandle · 08/10/2025 19:09

Only a MN mum would think everyone would be rushing to kiss their baby 😂

Absolutely!
It says a lot about peoples behaviour that the the parent's felt the need to have such a sign on the pram.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/10/2025 19:12

I’ve seen those signs a few times.

Mumof1andacat · 08/10/2025 19:13

I work on children's cancer ward. Our parents often put these on the prams.

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 08/10/2025 19:13

This isnt a new thing

They are the parent - They can request and do what they like with their own baby

No-one elses business

Newsenmum · 08/10/2025 19:13

My first thought is it’s probably a sick baby 😢

The weird thing for me is, why would you want to kiss or touch a stranger's baby to the point where you're actually offended to be asked not to??

I love babies but I've never needed to be stopped touching one uninvited.

Newnamethisway · 08/10/2025 19:17

sad they need to do this if it is to ward off strangers. Maybe just also a steer to parents of young children who are often just curious.

I’ve never had children but am amazed by threads here with pregnant women who have strangers try to pat their bump.

I never once had a stranger kiss or touch my babies. 🤷‍♀️ is it a regional thing?

Yep.

My son was 8 when he had cancer and had to be an inpatient the entire time due to some complications but it wasn't unusual for the mums with babies to have things like that on the prams.

LadyGreyjoy · 08/10/2025 19:19

I put on of these signs on my daughter's pram after THREE old ladies put their hands in the pram to touch her in her first week of life. Two tried to lean in and breathe all over her and stroke her face and one time I was holding her and an old lady just marched up and shoved her hand straight in her her face, then had the cheek to look offended when I slapped it away before she made contact. My daughter was 6 days old!

I don't want strangers touching my baby and I find it outrageous that people actually need to be told it's not ok.

I might start a new line in tshirts.

"Don't touch, I'm just fat" 🤭

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/10/2025 19:20

I can honestly say that I have never had the urge to touch or kiss any babies that weren't personally birthed by me.

Puppies, on the other hand...

Exactly what I was about to say. They shouldn't need a bloody sign.

I have had people do it on at least 3 occasions that I can think of to my currently 3mo. I'm in the north east.

Apricotafternoon · 08/10/2025 19:23

Fair enough and good on them for the sign.

Me neither. Maybe my babies were hideous or something?
