Full Moon Effects Period

If I'm on my period during a full moon it's always very heavy and I feel very lethargic. The days leading up, I feel like a cat in heat. Has been this way for years. Does anyone else have a similar experience?

The full moon doesn’t affect my period but oddly I grow hair all over my body and start howling.

I go mad and try to take over the world

The full moon and the lead up to it really impacts my sleep.

I would usually be asleep now but I am wide awake and will be for some time.

EVERYBODY LOOK AT THE MOON!

They do say more women go into labour during a full moon. Or is it during a storm? I can’t remember.

Charredtea · 07/10/2025 22:39

Before menopause id always go off the rails around a full moon, my period and full moon used to arrive together and it was like a massive shot of chill as soon as they arrived , beforehand I was like a cat on a hot tin roof and I’d often do something to implode my life, pmt had lasting effects.
turned out alter I had pmdd .
hrt made such a difference to those pressure cooker days

It’s interesting that a menstrual cycle is the same length as a lunar cycle even if there’s no direct relationship between the two.

Was a delivery suite midwife for 20 years. Anecdotally I can tell you that more women presented with spontaneous rupture of membranes during a full moon than other times in the lunar cycle. Guess it’s about how the moon controls the tides??? Night duty as I remember it, was always a nightmare during a full moon. Very, very busy. A few years ago I acquired an allotment. The more successful gardeners plant their plots according to the lunar cycle. I haven’t worked it out yet, but I’ve bought a book and in the spring I intend to do the same.

Maybe we came from the moon ?

MinxyMew · 08/10/2025 15:38

Keep clear of the moors

Studies of women who have regular monthly cycle and are not taking any medication have shown that are more likely to follow the lunar cycle, this isn't new and has been documented

though less likely now due to contraception, other medications, spending less time in nature (most of out light is artificial now)

so it may just be you cycle follows the lunar cycle

the idea of the lunar cycle impacting our moods is also nothing new

HRTQueen · 08/10/2025 16:00

and my cycle followed the lunar cycle (no hormonal medication)

now I am on hrt its all over the place

Another weird thing related to this is I have heard the cycles of women living together tend to move towards being in sync. Has anyone else heard that?

Yes.

Although I just did a quick Google and found the original study is disputed. Any medics got better references than Wikipedia?

Yes has happened often with flat mates, close friends and work colleagues (very noticeable a few years ago)

my friend has three sisters. so four daughters and their mother had their periods at the same time, she said it was a very tense house every month for a few days

again long been documented but its only to do with women's health so not really that important to bother with much research 🙄
