My husband mumbles - no two ways about it, he mumbles his words, often speaking as he walks away from me and I have to ask him to repeat what he has said. I will add that I have absolutely no trouble hearing what anybody else says and never have had. Yesterday he was chatting away, and I didn't catch some of what he said and asked him to repeat it. He immediately shouted at me 'are you deaf?'. I was really taken aback and have been quite upset since. Am I being too sensitive or was he rude?

Difficult. I don't think I'd be upset about the are you deaf comment on its own but the mumbling would drive me nuts. Clear dictionary and enunciation are important in my opinion.

However, if the mumbling and his lack of clarity has been going on for a long time and is a bone of contention between you, then I can see it as much nastier but possibly in response to him feeling nagged as well.

You both need to work on your communication with each other and see if there's a happier place for each of you together.

Sadly, I have a feeling this may be the tip of the iceberg.
