Was coming back home and motorway was backed up I was always told off my lorry driving dad is appreciated as they work on time logs ,as we where at a stand still I left a gap for a lorry to join the lane , next thing a know a crazy old man started banging on my window saying a made his journey much more longer and I should not have let him in, I was very polite and told him to go back to his car as everyone needs to get along , he then got back in his car and rammed mine from behind and has caused about £400 worth of damage to my car,all caught on dash cam front and rear refused to give me his details so letting insurance deal with it but the question is was I wrong to let the lorry driver in .?

Wut 😑

Horsedoglover59 · 05/10/2025 20:40

Absolutely not! I always let lorry drivers in if sensible conditions to do so, but I'm so sorry about you and the crazy old man and the damage to your car! I hope his car was expensively damaged at the front too!

TheNightingalesStarling · 05/10/2025 20:42

I hope you reported it to the Police, not just insurance. Yes you need to allow merging.

Farmwifefarmlife · 05/10/2025 20:44

My DH used to be a lorry driver and I don’t think people really understand about lorry’s but yes I’ll always let a lorry in. What a crazy old man who gets out and does that to someone!

Dbank · 05/10/2025 20:49

Perfectly entitled to let a lorry in.

I would urge you to report the incident to the police as it's a criminal offence, but don't be too surprised if the police won't pursue it.

LordEmsworth · 05/10/2025 20:57

Yes, this was entirely your own fault. The crazy old man was completely correct. And this definitely happened exactly as described.

Hankunamatata · 05/10/2025 20:58

I always let work vans and lorry's in. They are doing jobs

UnhappyHobbit · 05/10/2025 22:16

What In earth! You could have let 5 tanks out and that would still have been no reason for a car to ram you! Shocking behaviour.

Nothankyou2025 · 06/10/2025 06:17

The loony who rammed you had no right to do that no matter what. It doesn't matter what you did or didn't do. He's just a nutbag. The police won't care or do anything, unfortunately, but at least insurance will pay up.

sorrynotathome · 06/10/2025 06:40

The plural of lorry is lorries. HTH

sashh · 06/10/2025 07:05

I always try to let people in if they are driving for work so lorries but busses as well.

Yes report to the police.

there's always one..

That man sounds like he shouldn't be driving if he gets road rage at someone showing basic manners when driving. My DH is a pretty impatient driver at times, but will always let someone in when there's a queue of traffic. I think he once told me there's been studies conducted which show if everyone lets one person in, then it eases the queue of traffic much quicker.

Agree with PPs definitely report to the Police. It's an offence to leave the scene of a collision without giving your insurance details. This guy deliberately rammed your car and you have the footage, so I'd be surprised if the Police don't take action against him for his behaviour.

colette1970 · 06/10/2025 20:51

Reported to police and insurance company dealing with it xxxx
