I have this lovely dress. I want to wear it for a family wedding in May next year. But I’m not sure if it’s the wrong material for a spring wedding?

Is it velvet? Velour? I think that would be odd for spring.

FlyingBuddha · 04/10/2025 19:16

Yes it is a velvet type of material.

I need to think where else I can wear it. I really like it but I don’t really go to nice places where it feels appropriate.

It’s a beautiful dress and colour but I would think it’s probably more suited for an autumn/ winter wedding.

londongirl12 · 04/10/2025 19:16

If it’s a hot day, you could get very sweaty! But with the length and not dark shoes/ accessories, I think you could wear it for may.

OrwellianTimes · 04/10/2025 19:18

Velvet is more of an autumn winter fabric tbh.

FlyingBuddha · 04/10/2025 19:18

Was thinking paired with these shoes

Posh dinner, Christmas party, Christmas day even. It's not a ball gown, just a nice dress.

CoastalCalm · 04/10/2025 19:22

Is it available in a lighter colour ? The combo of a jewel colour and the fabric screams festive period to me but in a pastel colour could work

CoastalCalm · 04/10/2025 19:23

Sorry I see you already have it - if return it if you can’t think of any other occasion to wear it

WarriorN · 04/10/2025 19:25

Early may can be freezing still - i remember one that had had frost in the morning. Late may tends to be warmer. If it’s early I’d wear it. But my friends and relatives aren’t mega conventional!

The colour is stunning!!!

Paired with those shoes, a beautiful little clutch and an oh so fab pair of earrings.... im kinda jealous!!

However, May in velvet may be very hot as May is so hit and miss these days. Do you have a back up dress just in case?
Maybe something in a lighter material but could match the accessories sp you can decide closer to/on the day.

These are nice! Maybe plan on wearing it but have a back up in case May is hot.

you could wear it with black tights on a meal out, Christmas Day etc.

BlueMum16 · 04/10/2025 19:51

Love both the shoes and dress but not together.

Id wear the dress to dinner, to the pub Christmas New Year, anytime really.

I wear dresses for work so don't see them as dressed up.

The shoes look lovely for spring or summer.

NoSoupForU · 04/10/2025 19:52

Wear what you like!!! I hate pastel and neutral coloured clothes, and can't abide floral print. So I guess I'm never dressed appropriately at a spring wedding. But I'm not there to adhere to some arbitrary dress code.

Followthesunshine · 04/10/2025 20:00

If you had to wear it then Christmas Day. It's not a spring wedding outfit.

Lemonyyy · 04/10/2025 20:02

I’d wear it to a Christmas party with tights and killer sparkly heels

WarriorN · 05/10/2025 07:04

Are you in the south or north?

I think up north it has more longevity!
