Yr 7 son being bullied by shits about his plain black large bag. He wants something smaller, what are your 13/ 14 year olds using? Also I am not cool and he has no older siblings or pals- what’s cool right now? I know it’s not the answer:.. but I just need to help him not be a target 😔

These things vary so much by area I find. Here they all wear near identical black Nike backpacks, black North Face coats and black Air Force 1 shoes with white socks. I’ve no idea how they find their own stuff again after PE!

Nike backpacks

Peclet · 30/09/2025 22:33

Acceptable brands round here-

nike
north face
vans
stussy
eastpak
dickies

you’ll get a half decent bike back back for about £20-30. Try and get one with a smallish logo. Are large logos are totally cringe 🙄

Good luck to your son- also keep an eye on this as these things can be something and nothing or escalate.

NIKE BAG

Peclet · 30/09/2025 22:36

out of school

Black joggers
h and m baggy jeans
Ralph Lauren polo shirts (vinted!)
stussy and carharrt hoodies
shell jackets- like a waterproof but better-
berghaus
northface

adididas Stan smiths
new balance dad trainers 6140s?? Maybe white and silver chunky ones

what do his mates wear?

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 30/09/2025 22:37

while a plain adidas/nike/puma backpack is a relatively safe bet, this does vary by location. Is it possible to lurk near school one morning or afternoon to check out what the local lads' preference is?

Fruitbatdancer · 30/09/2025 23:09

Thank you so much, I work full time so don’t do school run so don’t see others so I’m blind and DH has a ‘tell them to f@ck off’ mentality whereas I’m a conformist (to a limit!)

Nike and black round here (although dd2 won’t comply but did change her much loved yellow back pack (year 7&8) to a more under the radar navy bag but she wouldn’t be seen dead with Nike… her twin is part of the popular group so Nike is mandatory 🙄

(dd2 didn’t get bullied and found it funny the older dc were playing the yellow car game, where you punch the person if you spot a yellow car, but with dd and her yellow bag. She was a strong enough character to pull it off but she did reach a point of wanting to be less visible going into year 9.)

Ablondiebutagoody · 30/09/2025 23:21

Tell them to fuck off, it's just a bag. Who cares what their opinion is? He'll look like a total milksop when he turns up with a new one and they know full well that they pushed him into it.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 30/09/2025 23:42

So you want to teach him to give in to bullies and just be part of the crowd?

It's not likely to make them stop anyway. They'll either find something else to pick on him about or tease him about the fact he changed to fit in

And they'll know they can pressure him into things...
