It is 2025. I thought we were through with this. And here I am, with aching limbs, fever, sore throat and a positive lateral flow.

Anywhere else? I wouldn’t have tested but I felt so bad that I knew even before I did that this wasn’t a normal cold.

I think I have it, the cough and the insomnia are the tell tale signs as well as my croaky voice. I don't actually feel that bad but I'm tired from not sleeping and from all the coughing!

I haven't bothered testing, it's not going to change the outcome for me personally.

Pistachiocake · 30/09/2025 20:54

A lot of people are off from my work with a "virus". They're normally quite healthy/fit people but some have been off for nearly 3 weeks. I can't say if it's Covid as none have tested, as far as I know, kind of surprised if you get tests now, but even some right-wing press has mentioned new variants.
Have to admit I hate talking about it now, as I do know someone (young, fit, healthy) hospitalised with it 9 months ago and I lost a relative to it a year ago.
I hope you feel better soon.

Mum2Fergus · 30/09/2025 21:00

I had it (4th time) a couple of weeks ago…I get worse with it each time…and have been paying for jabs privately so god knows how I’d have been without them! Read today there are 2 new strains doing the rounds.

Brightbluesomething · 30/09/2025 21:00

Yep it’s going round work and people have been floored by it. Started a couple of weeks ago and it’s spreading like wildfire because people keep coming to work poorly 😡

DefinitelyNiceMen · 30/09/2025 21:04

I have had something for three weeks too. I caught it through an n95 mask, which usually makes it very mild for me, but it's still been properly inconvenient and still keeping going. Fed up tbh. I want to get on and do things.

Flowers and Brew to anyone who is grinding through a virus right now.

TempestTost · 30/09/2025 21:06

What do you mean you thought we were through with this? It's a respiratory virus, its never going away.

You really don't need to do those tests, the treatment is the same for all of them, treat the symptoms, stay home as much as you can, rest. If you can't breath go to the hospital.

JosieRay · 30/09/2025 21:17

I’m so worried to hear that there are new strains doing the rounds now. It’s taken me 10 months to feel better after last having Covid and I’m now diagnosed with bradycardia as a result of it.
I can’t bear to think that I could catch it again and what it could do to me, but what can I do? I have to get on and live my life without constantly watching out for people coughing and sneezing etc. (although I do). I know that people have to work, shop etc when they don’t feel well and that some people may be infectious but with no symptoms, but I would hope that people that can, will stay at home until they feel better.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 01/10/2025 14:07

There is no "through with this", any more than we're going to be through with the flu, or any one of many other coldy type viruses.

It's here to stay, and you're going to get it every so often.

ShortColdandGrey · 01/10/2025 14:10

I had it 2 weeks ago and I know a lot of people that have it at the moment. It is bloody awful and I was so pissed off when I lost my sense of smell and taste. I had just been to M&S and bought myself some of the new Christmas treats 😂

Caroparo52 · 01/10/2025 15:18

Apparently its a new strain with a very sore throat kicker. Getting my free NHS jab tomorrow plus flu one

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 01/10/2025 15:29

I don’t think it’s ever gone away, just that people mainly no longer test and it generally doesn’t get media attention any more, although I did see something on the BBC site yesterday about new strains possibly meaning it’s more rampant (although no more dangerous). I know of quite a few people who had it this summer and were quite unwell (they tested after feeling ill) . I think the further reduction of the vaccination programme this year is a mistake. Yes you can pay privately but it’s not cheap, and I would imagine well out of the reach of a lot of people who are going into work unwell as they get no sick pay.

Figur · 01/10/2025 15:43

YANBU to feel shit with covid
YANBU to test
YABU to think we were through with it

Hope you feel better soon.

Justbecauseyoucandoesntmeanyoushould · 01/10/2025 16:20

My DH lives in a care home and has had it, along with several others. I isolated, as I'd seen him the day before his positive test. I didn't get it (I tested). I'm not visiting until they're COVID-free.

tobee · 01/10/2025 16:36

My 90 year old dad just got a hospital discharge date after being in for a while with a chest infection and heart failure.

Then I got a call 2 minutes later saying he'd tested positive for Covid. Is going to be going home to 89 year old mum with her own health issues tomorrow.

Neither have had it before but are fully vaccinated.

tobee · 01/10/2025 16:38

I'm wondering if I've got it as I'm shattered currently. I had no appetite last time. I'm absolutely fooking starving right now so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shit, I didn't know this. My 3 year old is currently ill and he's blatantly got a really sore throat. He's non verbal so can't tell me how he feels. Now I'm wondering if he's got COVID and how bad is this new strain 😭

citygirl77 · 01/10/2025 16:44

i have it. I run a medical room in a school and loads of students are in school with Covid. I ache all over, terrible cold symptoms and have a pounding headache. But no sore throat this time.

smallglassbottle · 01/10/2025 17:13

I had a weird virus about four weeks ago. I called it the knackered virus because the main symptom was feeling exhausted and wiped out. I didn't have a sore throat, but had temperature, aching painful limbs, stuffed nose and then painful stomach. I'm just not recovering though, which only happens when I get covid. I'm also feeling depressed and have brain fog, which only happens when I have covid. I hate covid. It just goes on forever and you never fully recover.

weebarra · 01/10/2025 17:50

I think I have it. Sore throat, moved to bad cough, headache, knackered. Off sick on Monday and wfh for the rest of the week. DD also has whatever I have.

Hibernatingtilspring · 01/10/2025 17:53

Our household has had it recently, and its been doing the rounds at work/school. I don't think mine was the new strain but I'm sure it was covid as while the cold type symptoms were pretty mild for me (I suffer badly with regular colds) I was switching between feeling fine and then really fatigued every couple of hours, plus terrible brain fog. It's been three weeks since I started with it and although I'm generally better, my energy levels are all over the place. It's really hard to manage as I'll go to work feeling fine then suddenly feel like I could curl up at my desk and snooze!

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 01/10/2025 17:56

I am pretty sure I had it a couple of weeks ago. Something which I suspect was Covid floored me for almost 2 months earlier in the year as I kept thinking I was better then going back to normal life then ended up on antibiotics for a chest infection.

This time I just stopped everything except wfh and basic housework as I felt the same but not as bad, and felt better in a week but I have exactly the same post viral rash now as in the spring.

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 01/10/2025 17:58

My worst symptoms were also brain fog and fatigue this time

I dont understand the I thought we were through with this in your post. Surely if you've learned nothing else in the last 6 years you have at least understood how virus work? It was never going to go anywhere. Just like colds, flu and the thousands of other viruses out there once it is in circulation it is pretty much here to stay. You will get Covid every so often for the rest of your life. Just like you will get colds and flu every so often.

Nelly91 · 02/10/2025 12:20

I didn’t test but have been ill for 5 days, insomnia, pounding heart, headache and tummy pain. Worst thing is being unwell with sooo many responsibilities. I feel quite down in the dumps which is how I felt last time with it.
