To think there are too many unhelpful posts on here?

It seems to very all or nothing, there are a lot of helpful posters but on most threads there are those you can just tell are trying to wind the OP up and go out of their way to be opposing.

For instance- My leg is hanging off, should I go to A and E?
Poster- Absolutely not, what a waste of public resources.

I've had a sore hip for 2 days, any advice?
Poster- Careful, my auntie had this and it was stage 4 cancer, she died within 2 weeks aged 34.

My son's classmate has caviar in their lunchbox, aibu to think this is a bit much?
Poster- Don't be ridiculous, that's far better than a (perfectly normal) lunch of a sandwich, crisps and an apple.

OP posts:

I don't like the ones where people asking for advice say teenage behaviour and someone pipes up just parent properly.

Holliegee · 27/09/2025 14:23

Ive been here for years.
And its always followed the same trend of reply, some replies are really helpful but quite often the replies are the same and can be quite mean.

Tbh if someone’s leg is hanging off and they go to mumsnet instead of A&E they probably deserve to loose their leg 😂

Your second example about a sore hip, if people ask for advice people can only give advice based on their own experience. Again with the third example if you ask for an opinion your not only going to get replies that have the same opinion as you

Definitely there was a constipation thread a few days ago the Op hadent a had a bowel movement for nearly three weeks, most of the advice tbf was to seek ,medical attention ASAP ,but there were several posters who didn't seem to understand that prolonged constipation can become a medical emergency and were suggesting all kinds of daft remedies.

OP specifically asks for a doctor and all the responses, “I’m not a doctor But…”

Timeforabitofpeace · 27/09/2025 14:37

You are SO not being unreasonable, and it’s got worse.

PegDope · 27/09/2025 14:40

I find the first few replies (this thread aside) are full of vitriol and spite. Like they’re just looking to lash out.

There have always been vicious comments (best of vipers anyone?) but of late it’s gotten a lot more noticeable and increasingly common.

EmpressaurusKitty · 27/09/2025 14:42

Posts on long threads by people who haven’t bothered to check whether the OP’s updated are often unhelpful.

For instance, OP: ‘What should I do about my annoying neighbour?’

Helpful posters: ‘Ask her to stop annoying you.’

OP: ‘Great, she apologised & now everything’s fine!’

Unhelpful posters, ad infinitum: ‘Have you tried asking her to stop annoying you, OP?’

The armchair lawyers that crowd around employment or tenant law and spout if incorrect urban myths are the worst.

OP is annoyed that their desk has been moved too close to the communal kitchen and is noisy. ‘I may be wrong but this sounds like a case of constructive dismissal’. Yes you are very wrong.

“Don’t worry I heard they aren’t allowed to give a bad reference”. You heard wrong then

Ll is demanding tenant make time for viewings. “what does your contract say? You need to do them then”. No they don’t.

What level of narcissism drives someone to provide legal advice that they are unqualified to provide and without even checking it?

Screamingabdabz · 27/09/2025 17:41

Crisps should not be part of a ‘normal’ lunch box for kids.

I don’t quite know what else we are voting on.

Hope that was helpful.

I was genuinely thinking that today. Why are people so bloody antagonistic/ spiteful?
I just think there are a lot of bitter/ unhinged people online and they just enjoy lashing out! I have particularly noticed if the OP does not come across as well educated and has a hard life.
