New school and start date

My daughter is in year 3. We went to view a new school on Wednesday. Decided we liked it and to move her for various reasons.

Well I returned the application via email Thursday morning, by Friday afternoon we had a start date of Wednesday 1st October.

I have replied to say this is fine. Her father seems to think it would be best to allow her the week at old school and then start a fresh week on the following Monday.

Due to how quickly it has all moved, the old school doesn't know she is moving yet so I will have to email them Monday, which means her last day will be the next day.

Not really sure what to do here? Any advice at all or experience in moving a child would be great. Thank you.

There is a government census early on October upon which funding is based. I imagine the new school are keen to have her on their books before this so that they get the funding they are entitled to. My bet is it wouldn't be so quick at any other time of year!

School census is 2nd October. If she’s not at the school by then, they don’t get funding for her next year. I’d go with their suggestion.

Ah okay. Thank you. Her father wanted to give her more time to say goodbye to her friends etc. Daughter is happy to move Wednesday.

Just move her. These sorts of things happen all the time. Sometimes kids look round one day and are gone the next in my place is there is space for them to start.
