Where should I park in London?

Where should I park in London?

We’re staying in Docklands and the hotel does have parking, but that means registering the EV for ULEZ, adding to the journey time.
DH and DS are off to Wembley, DS also wants a stop at Westfield. DD and I just plan to mooch around the West End, and we’d like to head to Borough Market tomorrow too.
Was thinking of using the big Stanmore TfL car park and then hopping on the Jubilee line to get about. Does that sound like the best option, or is there somewhere better to park?

Why does registering for ulez increase the journey time?

piefacedClique · 27/09/2025 09:13

Sorry it doesn’t, I just meant the faff of registering for ULEZ plus then driving across London - we are driving from Wales, increases journey time driving through London just to park the car at the hotel and then head back into the centre.

Actually as I have an electric car I won’t need to pay it! I think! This is all new to me!

You only need to register if your car is not ULEZ compliant, and you have an EV so not necessary. Honestly the time it takes from Stanmore to get to Docklands plus the faff of carrying your luggage on the tube I'd just drive straight to your Docklands hotel.

piefacedClique · 27/09/2025 09:21

Ok amazing. Thank you x

Why are you staying in Docklands if you are coming from Wales and they are going to Wembley? Are you able to change hotels?

Blueuggboots · 27/09/2025 09:24

You’d be better off staying closer to Wembley. Shepherd’s Bush area or similar.
we park at Westfield White City and tube everywhere from there.

piefacedClique · 27/09/2025 09:24

family had a voucher for a hotel there so we are using that x

allgrownupnow · 27/09/2025 09:24

why are you staying in docklands for an event at Wembley 🤯
but anyway, just park at the hotel, you’re overthinking it. Ulez is irrelevant. There is the central london congestion charge zone, if you do go into or through it you you will have to pay(reduced rate for Ev). But this is a very simple online payment that will take less than a minute.

piefacedClique · 27/09/2025 09:26

Maybe we should just park at Westfield then?

I park at Edgeware - I use YourParkingSpace app

DappledThings · 27/09/2025 09:28

Wouldn't it be easier to just take the train. You're coming a long way around London to get to the Docklands side from Wales.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 27/09/2025 09:28

Are you just staying one night? Will you want to drop your bags at the hotel first?

a bit confused by the many places to visit - can you say what your itinerary is in order, and whether you have a small overnight bag you’d be happy to carry all day or need to drop/collect from hotel and we can have a better think

AbzMoz · 27/09/2025 09:31

Unless you’re planning on buying loads, definitely take the tube. Particularly if WHU are at home on your Westfield (Stratford) shopping day.

There’s actually a fair amount of mooching to do on Canary Wharf itself now - cute city park/lake bit, decent array of shops and restaurants.

I don’t think it’s worth driving into / across london to park … public transport is definitely quicker and cheaper!

piefacedClique · 27/09/2025 09:41

We are currently driving up so sadly no option to change to the train….

Son and husband are going to Oasis tonight and son wants to do some birthday shopping also.

Daughter and I were not initially coming up so all last minute. We are happy to go with the flow and do anything… she just will happily walk around and see the sights. London is very exciting for a 10 year old… and a Sephora at Westfield is like heaven to her!

Had been thinking Westfield white city

We have travelled very light so just one small rucksack to carry round for all of us

Can you park at a reading or twyford then hop on Elizabeth line? You’ll be probably 2 hours in traffic vs 1h by train.

but in any case enjoy your trip!

Redpeach · 27/09/2025 09:47

The train is the best option if you can change plans

LlynTegid · 27/09/2025 09:52

Stanmore for the car best option, I think. It's not half a world away from Wembley and the charges are not supersonic. Remember no cigarettes and alcohol can be taken into the stadium. Have a lovely time. Hope you don't look back in anger about the hotel.

Caspianberg · 27/09/2025 10:15

Park at the hotel. Otherwise if you park at White City Westfield you carrying your dh and son’s overnight bags plus shopping you do across town on tube to hotel.

You can drop car at hotel now, and go to Stratford Westfield today which is bigger anyway that White City. And your dh and son just tube back to Wembley with basic essentials as they won’t be allowed big bags in anyway. If your daughter or you buy stuff then it can be dumped straight in car at hotel and not lugged all over the place.

piefacedClique · 27/09/2025 10:18

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions – everything’s much clearer in my head now for our London trip. I think parking at Westfield White City is the best option as we can tick a few boxes there: charge the car, do a bit of shopping, drop the bags off, grab our rucksack and then go our separate ways from there.
With a plan like this, I’ve got Live Forever levels of confidence it’ll work out, and definitely Don’t Look Back in Anger if the hotel isn’t perfect. Here’s hoping it all goes smoothly and we don’t get caught in a Champagne Supernova of confusion – it’s Definitely Maybe the best plan yet!
Diolch yn fawr!

The equivalent is, you're staying in Cardiff to go to a gig in Swansea with a shopping trip in Merthyr Tydfil thrown in. Good luck!

Squarestones · 27/09/2025 10:40

I second idea to park twyford or reading and get the Elizabeth line in, because wouldn't Westfield Stratford City be easier if you are staying docklands?

piefacedClique · 27/09/2025 11:20

Aside from the hotel, everything else we want to do is west of London. Yeah the hotel is a big of a sticking point but happy for a freebie plus the kids have never been over that side so they will love seeing the O2 and all the skyscrapers etc. thanks for all the suggestions x
