Asked to keep pregnancy quiet at work

I work for a large global organisation, service based, have a set of clients that I deal with on a daily basis and have built up a relationship with.

Im pregnant with my second baby. I told my employer quite early on as I had bad sickness and understandably kept it quiet from clients.

Now I’m 30 weeks pregnant, quite obviously so, and I’m still being asked not to mention it to any clients as they don’t have a maternity cover for me. I think it’s unlikely they will have a cover in place before I go on leave due to budget restrictions in place on hiring. My colleagues do know as I see them regularly.

I feel quite strange about it and I’m starting to feel like a liar when chatting with clients around plans for 2026 knowing I’ll be on mat leave, strategy, even just about my weekends to be honest! Most meetings are online as some of my clients are overseas but there have been a couple of face to face meetings that I’ve been told I don’t need to attend, I’m not sure 100% but suspect it could be because I’m obviously pregnant now.

AIBU about this? Has anyone else been asked to do similar?

Yeah it happened to me it was really odd. I ended up telling external stakeholders in my last meetings with them that this was my last meeting with them…!
