He likes me…he likes me not…

Wise MNetters

Im late 30s single parent, 2 years out of my marriage and having been adamant I was done with men I might be changing my mind 🤦‍♀️.

Recently an acquaintance who I know through a shared hobby sent me a message ( until this point we didn’t have any contact beyond having social media connections). It was just a general, hey how are you message to which I replied.
Since then we have had messages back a forward about the shared hobby/holidays etc. All very standard chat. At one point he referenced the fact he was single in relation to something else we were taking about but other than that it’s been just general
chit chat.

Now, my question basically is- how can I word “want to meet up” without sounding totally odd!

We live about 20 miles away from each other. Share a hobby. Have met a handful of times but not for years.

Help a girl out!

Just send him a text saying ‘do you fancy going for a drink this week?’! You don’t need to over complicate it, just keep it simple

I have no idea why I’d find this almost impossible to do! 🫣

Which is ridiculous as it’s what what him to do, I need to get a grip 😂

The worst he can do is say no! Just go for it!

If you don’t ask you’ll never know what might happen! If it helps, could you frame it as something to do with the shared interest? Going to a related event? Going to a specialist shop to buy supplies/equipment?
Good luck!

Whats the shared hobby?

"hey we should get together for xyz sometime"
"im going to xyz next saturday, do you fancy coming too?"

then if/when they agree you can see if they want to grab a drink/food after, maybe

Say that you’re going to be in his area next week and wondered if he was free to meet up afterwards - phrase it that you’ll be passing anyway, rather than making a trip to see him.

Men don't just text women to hi. He likes you! Take a deep breath and go for it.

AhBiscuits · 24/09/2025 17:46

I'd say something like
I'm in your neck of the woods for [made up reason] on Saturday. Fancy meeting for a drink?
