Eating salmon pregnant

I am 23 weeks pregnant and I have stayed off salmon for my pregnancy but I see some people eat it. Is it ok? As it’s my favourite fish

Have you checked the NHS list for what’s not safe in pregnancy? I don’t remember cooked salmon being on there but you could double check.

Why would you? Salmon is fine to eat

I didn't think salmon was one of those very high mercury content fish. I only avoided swordfish.

BleakAF · 23/09/2025 13:13

I think it's only raw salmon you have to avoid

Oily fish (source of omega 3s) is super important for foetus' brain development

I ate salmon once I'd stopped throwing up both normal and smoked (which I believe they recently changed the guidelines on...but I weighed up the risks of listeria. I'd eaten it in my previous two pregnancies once a week too.)

It’s fine to eat salmon as long as it’s cooked.
