Anyone work in a bank? Unwanted mail.

Hi all, looking for some advice please.
For 7 years I have been receiving mail from a bank at my address. I do not know the intended recipient and it was not the person who lived here before us.

House is bought and we receive at least one item of correspondence for this unknown person per month. For the first few years I kept sending back but now I'm sick of it. Bank says nothing can be done until this random person changes their details and potentially could continue for the rest of my life. Such an annoyance and feels like a form of harassment! Anyone know how I can make this stop?

Have gone down complaint route/ombudsman but all saying the same thing. I just want peace and no mail for a random person we don't know.

A long shot, but maybe try the Information Commissioner's Office.

If the bank are continuing to send the letters to you, despite making it clear you are not that person - They might be able to do something under the guise of GDPR - Sending someone else's confidential documentation to you.

Have you tried searching for the person on Social Media?

Could somebody at the Post Office offer any advice? - I'm thinking about how their system filters out mail to be redirected when people move house - Could they filter it into a "Not known at this address" before it reaches you?

There's also a thing called "The Mail Preference Service" - I think it's part of Royal Mail - That's something to do with screening junk mail - might help...

Good luck!

The bank absolutely can do something - in my bank it's called a Gone Away marker and it stops post going out. It won't stop legally mandated post, but that tends to be annual stats and information about T&C changes.

Thanks so much for the tips, going to enquire tomorrow about the Post Office possibly intercepting before it reaches me. I'll try anything at this point!

I had a situation where the previous occupants of my current home had two different names they went by. When mail addressed to them continued to arrive here, and the normal " RTS, not at this address" didn't seem to work, I wrote FRAUD and SCAM on the envelopes (and used a highlighter on the capitalised words) and then RTS. This seemed to work very quickly!
