To see the GP for a persistent earache?

I had sinus surgery about 6 weeks ago.

I was discharged from the ENT a day before I flew on holiday and the discharge letter states that if I need to speak to the ENT, I need to see my GP first.

I’ve had a persistent earache since I flew 2 weeks ago - it was 4 weeks after surgery and I was assured it would be fine. My right ear feels “full”. I was waiting for it to clear with the swelling from the surgery, but I’m fully recovered from that and it hasn’t cleared, so I don’t actually think it’s related to the surgery. I’ve always had problems with this ear. I really don’t want to go back to the ENT waiting list (it took nearly two years for me to come up for surgery), and I don’t particularly want surgery again either.

AIBU to go?

YABU - it’s from the surgery, don’t waste GP time and just wait for it to go away alone

YANBU - it could be something else, get it checked just in case.

I just feel like they’re going to say I need to go back to ENT, which I can’t really do because I’ve been discharged.

Exactly so you need gp to re refer or they maybe able to do one of them advice request things they do or your gp might be able to sort or reassure.

But I don’t want to be referred again, it’s a huge waiting list and I don’t want to wait another 2 years

YANBU 2 week earache can be serious. No GP I know would question why you want to be seen. Ears are so near the brain blood barrier. Better to be checked out.

They would see you a lot quicker next time if your gp thought it was necessary especially since its following surgery they did. But your gp might look and could be something as simple as needing antibiotics

I’ll see about putting a form in in the morning. I just can’t be bothered with the whole process again, it was a pain in the arse

Ent is the worst I waited over a year for my first appointment but then when I was known to them I had 4 appointments within a space of 6 weeks. I think you will find it .much better this time around if needed

I only had two appointments in total, the first after about 14 months waiting, the second 6 months after that. I totally understand the pressures the NHS is facing, but it’s really draining

You've had surgery with the ENT. It won't be the same wIt list as initial consult.
I can't understand how hemming and hawing about "should I call" is a ln option.
