To be scared I might be immuno compromised...

I am sorry to post here, but am needing info from anyone who might have been in my shoes.

Ive been battling ongoing athletes foot/skin infections since beginning of July. Full background, I chemically burnt my toes with a vinegar soak that was way too strong which shredded skin on 2 toes

Healed now but ongoing flare ups of AF and weeping blisters which then scab over. This culminated in an awful flare up if blisters/scabs just before I flew out on hols last week (great!!). Saw GP nurse/GP day before I flew out to get it dressed/evaluated and they took a swab. Checked NHS app whilst away for results and turns out it was a Streptococcus G infection. GP prescribed Amoxycillin which thankfully i was able to get over in Sicily and its cleared it although I think the AF is still lingering as I have that sore tingly feeling so plodding on with the Daktarin
Im really unnerved though as it says online strep g skin infections commonly occur in people who are immuno surpressed or who have undetected cancers - im freaking out now
Has anyone had this infection who hasn't had a cancer diagnosis. Im hoping my burnt, compromised newly fragile regenerated skin and the AF is tge reason for this. A bit scared. Thanks

You’ve got a foot infection, that’s all. You have a reason for the infection and it’s been successfully treated. Stay away from Google.

Do you have any cancer symptoms? Was your GP concerned about cancer at all?

Kamek · 18/09/2025 12:26

Have you been tested for diabetes? Recurrent infections can be a symptom

Thanks for replying @Cremedemar193
No cancer symptoms per se - but you start wondering don't yiu? How is feel today is how ive felt for 1/2 how ever many years but you hear horror stories of people being full of cancer and having had no real symptoms! Im probably overthinking and am a bit of an anxious person by nature. Its just i read 65% of people who develop this infection have an underlying malignancy and its freaked me a bit. GP not flagged any concerns-but they can be clueless - it was me who suggested they take a swab!! Good job I did!! I suppose i cd be diabetic - i am just into obese in terms of BMI 😓

It’s not recurrent infections though, is it? It seems it is the same condition she has had since July. OP, do you have any other symptoms of diabetes?

Mulledjuice · 18/09/2025 17:24

Work on the core contributors to health (that you can influence) - sleep, de-stress, nutrition and gut health, exercise, daylight, and social connections.

Do that for a few months and see how you feel.

My thought too. You can buy a glucose monitor and test strips from a pharmacy and find out very quickly and easily.

CanIbeRio · 18/09/2025 17:45

@Mulledjuice
These things cd well be factors.
Im single handedly reliant upon by my aging widowed Mum who seems to be developing dementia, I lost my Dad last year who essentially starved himself to death refusing to eat following a stroke which left him unable to walk. Im also supporting dd who has some mh issues and often can't sleep as her symptoms are worse at night so for the last 3 yrs she frequently gets me up in the middle of the night for some mh support. I also lost my best friend to cancer very suddenly a few years ago. Im snappy, stressed, tired, drink too much, exercise little and at the moment can't relax. I was even stressed on holiday last week cos of my bleeping foot. Im pretty fed up tbh. Sorry for the pity fest

@Kamek not really got any of the symptoms of diabetes. Just the difficult healing skin, I do get thirsty sometimes but generally I don't drink enough water and rarely finish a cuppa. Im tired but then i don't get enough sleep. I will however deffo get tested

I actually rarely get ill tbh, thinking about it. Im touching wood now but rarely get colds etc. Have had Covid twice but very mild. This is why this is getting me down cos I can't shake it and sounds mad but its making me feel a bit dirty!!! Athletes foot and strep - yuk, nasty grimy bugs and fungi. After 2.5 months ive had enough!!!!
Sorry for the rant, I know people out there are suffering worse 😞
