Sweet or Savoury?

My partner does not know the difference between sweet and savoury. If I ask for a savoury snack he says he doesn’t know what that is. Is that weirdest thing ever?!

Does he just not know what the words mean or is he unable to distinguish sweet and savoury tastes?

I think sweet is self-explanatory to most people but savoury is a bit more difficult to define. Sweet is ‘sugary’….but savoury - umami? Harder to describe.

No, I think the 'weirdest thing ever' is that NASA astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O'Hara accidentally dropped a tool bag in space on November 1, 2023, during a spacewalk and if aliens ever find the bag they will assume that is what we look like and will rename our planet Earth 'Spanner'.
God Forbid.

Savoury is basically salty. That should be easy enough for anyone to understand.
