TV wall mount or straps with toddler?

9 replies

I had a quote today to get my TV wall mounted and apparently due to the wall not being very strong (new build) they will have to order the parts as it is a specialist job.

I have been quoted £450.

It is a lot of money, I am just wondering if the straps would be better?

Obviously DC’s safety is number 1 priority so I will pay it if I have to, it just seems a lot.

Where is your TV now? Do you actually want it on the wall?

Fuck that's a lot of money. We have TV straps to the wall off Amazon and the TV on a stand and that's been fine. They could push it back and damage it, but we are strict on no touching, but it can't fall on them.

Hi
The TV is on a TV cabinet at the moment.
Toddler is now walking independently and worried about the TV falling.

You can buy stands which make the TV look as though it’s wall mounted but it’s not, they sit behind a cabinet/fireplace with the stand part slotting under and are only about £50 from Amazon.

I think both wall mounting and straps would provide adequate protection from the TV falling on a toddler, it comes down to your own preferences on looks/cost. We had neither with two DC and they never knocked the TV over or even came close to it but obviously it does happen.

@Itstheshowgirl
Hi thank you for the suggestion, do you know what it called as I am looking on Amazon now.

Many thanks x

I just put a fireguard in front of it and strapped that to the wall. It has the added bonus of protecting everything in the cabinet as well.

Search ‘TV floor stand’ some people just use them as a tv stand on their own but lots of pictures with people putting various sideboards and other units in front of them and it looks like the TV is wall mounted but it’s not it’s on the stand. We have one in our sons room because the walls aren’t strong enough to wall mount but he really wanted his TV on the wall to save space.

@Itstheshowgirl
Thank you so much. You have potentially saved me hundreds of pounds.

I have just looked on Amazon and will be ordering one, it is perfect.

Thank you so much.

@gamerchickThank you for your suggestion as well.
