AIBU to expect a replacement smoke detector?

Currently staying in an Airbnb in France with my husband, MIL, and children (DDs 7 month and 2.5).

Everything in our Airbnb is great until the second and third night where our smoke detector goes off for no apparent reason. First night we press the button and it stops, second night it won’t turn off so we have to take the battery out.

We message the hosts in the morning who thank us for letting them know and that we did the right thing removing it and they’ll sort it out but no indication of when.

It gets to 3pm and no sign of any replacement. We try the smoke detector again and again after about 30 mins it goes off and we have to take the battery out. I urge my husband to contact them and ask if they are coming with replacement, he is reluctant as he doesn’t want to bother them. 6:30pm rolls around and still nothing. I tell him to message them, he gets stressed at the thought of inconveniencing them. I tell him I’ll message them and he says no he’ll do it. They reply later that evening saying they will come tomorrow.

AIBU to expect a replacement smoke detector? My husband and my MIL seem to think I’m overreacting and it’s fine but we are staying with 2 children and the thought of not having a smoke alarm doesn’t sit right with me. This is the only smoke detector in the property. It is also a legal requirement. Also the place we are staying only has one exit route from the upstairs into the kitchen area, and all windows are velux windows so you can’t climb out.

To me this seems very black and white, they need to provide a replacement ASAP, right?!

Why didn’t you just message them to begin with saying you want a replacement the same day?

Go to whatever nearest shop sells one and ask them to reimburse you, they’re not normally more than €10

Have you not replaced the battery as in put a new battery in?

I'd do something super petty like put a new battery in but take it with me when I leave and put the old one back.
