I’ve been looking for a month or so now. Had checked previous MN posts, other forums and online. I am Autistic and find decisions so difficult when the salesman want a sale but I just want to be sure! Esp if a lot of money. Been to bed stores such as bensons and dreams. But I’m still struggling, really hope people can give input, who to go with or who to avoid from their experiences. My boyfriend says paying over £600 for mattress is ridiculous, I’m torn as I do grudge spending extra and always love a bargain but then at same time if this will hopefully last years!

(I’m a side sleeper, liked the medium feel from what I tried in stores and my last mattress by simmons was perfect but unfortunately no longer stock lasted 15 years a posturepedic memory foam)

From what I read online Emma and Ikea got quite few mentions, but not sure what ranges. I did see ikea hovag mention but then asked recently whilst in store and was told its discontinued.
hynos - pricier but also get good rep but seen stuff about backache unsure what range, in store I tried the natural wool excellence (which was my favourite but it is way over the budget I had in mind - but should I just spend since I loved it, they do have cheaper hypnos on next day mattresses but never ordered from before and scared incase doesn’t suit, they do however offer 60 night trial! There was Also was a cheaper hypnos posturecare 6. Firm side but could maybe get away with putting topper on it - would it last longer or would this cause health issues?
otty - online only
john lewis - seen few mention this so tried today and quite liked john lewis classic collection 1400 £699
or john lewis waitrose wool collection 1200 £649

please help does anyone have the above or any other mentions? Thanks so much

DP bought a ridiculously expensive Tempur mattress and I hate it. Don’t buy one!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/09/2025 21:17

Can’t beat a Premier Inn at home one.

No hassle, super comfortable, not cheap though. I know they are Silentnight, but not sure which one.

When k was ill my ds age 30 came to see me. He laid down on my bed and said ‘this is so comfortable’ and then bloody went to sleep🤷🏼‍♀️

Had an Emma for a few years, it’s still as comfortable as the first night and if other family members can’t sleep that’s the bed they jump into when it’s free! Emma wasn’t my first choice, I thought I wanted a Simba but as it was a gift it was buyer’s choice.
Have you tried the Dreams online quiz? Or gone in store to their diagnostic beds?

Well worth the investment to spend extra money on mattress

If it's for you, and not a shared bed, I'd go to IKEA and try them all out. The sales staff don't bother you there. IME more costly isn't always best.

I get it, ND household, it's incredibly stressful isn't it? Feel like such a muppet lying every way in a store, I have sensory issues but also not good with change. We have 2 hovag mattresses and a valevag which is as far as I can tell exactly the same. DS1 is the most autistic here and had to be told he could no longer keep the mattress with actual springs sticking through, and he loves the valevag. Well I assume loves as spends so much time in it!
Genuinely though, our Hovag is 5 years old, I should probably turn it, but it shows no sign of needing replacement.

Thought we’d taken proper time to figure out mattresses- bought a respa. For months my back was ten times worse because it was used to the old one. I’ll be honest op, I think you can pick one that you find suits, but it’s luck of the draw that from the first night on you won’t hate it!

Boxingshibes · 16/09/2025 21:21

I'd love a premier inn bed. I have the best night's sleep. I stay in a premier inn at least a week a month due to work.
You could book a night at a local one to see what you think?

BreezyPeachGoose · 16/09/2025 21:23

Go to IKEA and try them out in your own time.

notnorman · 16/09/2025 21:23

I like my Ikea one and they come rolled up which is a plus imo
