I attended a a and e department with my dd12 last night. She hurt her foot during a football match. As the day went on,her foot became extremely swollen and purple. Not to mention she was in a lot of pain. I called 111 for advice and I was given two options.

  1. Wait for today for a appointment at minor injuries ( as it was closed when I called)
  2. Take her to our local children's a and e for assessment.

We decided just to to take her to a and e as the pain was significantly getting worse.

She was seen by a nurse within 10 and had a xray within 30 minutes, She did wait about one hr to be seen by the doctor but it was a minor injury so to be expected. So we were out within 2hrs and this was a major children's hospital. Not to mention that everyone we came across was lovely and very helpful.

Iam aware that not everyone has positive experiences with the NHS just now but I just wanted to share ours last night.

She had quite a bit of soft tissue damage. When he showed me the xray even I could see where it was !!

I am glad to hear you had such a positive experience, I hope she heals quickly.

Agree, we had a great experience recently too. Seen and x-rayed within an hour.
We have both bought books to read and I didn't even manage a page!
