HELP. Can't call child on ipad as we share accounts

My child is soon to be starting residential.school. He has his own ipad and I have mine but his is set up from.my ipad so we share the same account. I'm trying to set up a way for us to video call each other and failing. I'm useless at tech so if anyone can show me an idiot proof way to do this, I'd be grateful. I can't delete my settings off his ipad as he has some communication software shared from my ipad on his that needs to stay as it is used daily.

If you set up a new email address and set your iPad FaceTime to call from that email address and call the one on the shared account (if that’s how face time is set up in the other iPad) that should work.

our iPad is set up from my iPhone and we use to have iPad set up to call from email and iPhone by number and that worked for us.

Can’t you set up a family sharing account? Then he will have his own account (so you can FaceTime) but you can share all of your apps (you choose which ones), purchases, shared photo albums etc.

You can also set up child settings (DS has to ask me before any purchases or downloads, there are time limits etc - obviously I don’t have any of that set up on my own account!)
