Ryanair priority boarding

I realise this is a non event and a boring thread lol however think I've given myself a headache by only purchasing priority and a extra cabin bag for just my partner and not me reason been that I only needed the extra cabin bag as well as one checked in suitcase between us and I didn't want to pay for 2 lots of priority
I wasn't bothered about the priority only the extra cabin bag but now Ryanair are saying we have to board separately one in priority and one in normal queue or buy another priority deal. Told that we can't even queue together with our cabin bag in the normal non priority queue. Any ody flown with Ryanair experienced this I have also tried to find just priority boarding for myself but not available.

We have booked seats together but God they want money for everything don't they

Well, yes. Ryanair is notorious for that - were you not familiar with them before booking?

Treeleaf11 · 11/09/2025 23:47

I've just flown with Ryanair. Probably over half of the passengers were priority boarding. On the way there boarding started quite early for tge priority passengers but it just meant they had to stand in a stairwell for ages until the plane was ready.

A lot of people travel with their small bags now and they're put under their seat. IME the cabin crew has been quite good with asking people to put their small bags under the seat if they have put them up. So there has been plenty of space for the purchased cabin bags.

I hate being stuck on the plane first. Hot and stuffy with no air con and people’s sweaty armpits above you cramming in their massive cabin suitcases. I wait until last, take my seat, small backpack under the seat in front, belt on, plane starts taxiing, job done.

To be fair, last couple of times I flew Ryanair, nearly everyone had paid for the priority boarding and carry on bag and the queue was far longer than for those without.

Reminds me of the Little Britain sketch where they were selling Speedy Boarding Passes and every traveller had bought one!

Michael O’Leary is a very shrewd businessman, he knows that getting your business talked about, good or bad, is free
advertising. I can remember when you could
fly to Dublin for 99p.

If all you want is the cheapest flight from A to B, Ryanair is great. The add ons are what cost but they’re all optional.

DH and I fly about six times a year. We rarely pay more than £100 for the return trip for both of us and usually a lot less. How anyone can complain about that beats me.

AutumnalLight · 12/09/2025 10:50

It literally doesn’t make any difference! Just queue in the non priority queue. You’ll sit somewhere different whilst waiting for the plane to board.
I bloody HATE Ryan Air. Always check if BA price is comparable!

Exactly!

Well, supposedly Priority allows you to board first and find a convenient spot for your cabin bag, but people are idiots and put small bags overhead rather than under the seat in front of them so there’s no spot for one’s cabin bag. It’s farcical.

But I’m not bitter Grin

Yup and the minute the seatbelt signs are off they're up and down like yo-yo's getting this and that out their bag.
Just put a small rucksack/bag under you seat with everything you need for the flight, like a normal person!
God I hate flying.

Anyway OP, yes I don't understand the issue of standing in a separate queue, just do that.

NewYorkSummer · 12/09/2025 11:12

Too many people are now taking such big cases in the cabin that they can’t all fit in the overhead lockers, then they get all disgruntled when they’re asked to put them in hold instead. I predict in a few years airlines will start banning any kind of hard shell case from going in the cabin, and go back to rucksacks and handbags like everyone used to take.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/09/2025 11:58

Space is not reserved in the overheads but it is allowed for you both to queue in the normal queue as I’ve done it.

I do sometimes go for speedy boarding as DS has ADHD but tbh it never seems to make a vast difference.

This is what I do if I’m travelling alone.

Swiftie1878 · 12/09/2025 12:00

Just go in the normal queue.
Why anyone would want to board a Ryanair plane any earlier than they have to is beyond me! Priority should mean you can wait till the very last minute to board! 😂😂😂

xILikeJamx · 12/09/2025 12:01

Beychella4 · 11/09/2025 18:52

You can queue together in the non-priority queue. I’ve done this many times with friends when we’ve booked separately on different fairs.
Priority is such a non-event on Ryanair IME, they just put you on the bus first and then everybody else gets on after you and ends up off the bus first!

Exactlly this. "Priority boarding" then you get sent through the gate, onto a bus to stand there and wait for everyone else to come through and fill the bus anyway. By which time you're furthest from the exit and last off the bus while everyone else skips up the stairs and onto the plane

pinkspeakers · 12/09/2025 12:02

I'm sure you could both queue in non-priority. Or just queue separately. I really wouldn't give it a second thought!

DeathStare · 12/09/2025 12:03

If you and your partner can't stand apart from each other in separate queues for 10 minutes, you have bigger problems than priority boarding.

The sooner the better.

Scarlettpixie · 12/09/2025 13:45

Surely you can join different queues? That way he boards first to have a better chance of getting the cabin bag in the overhead locker and you board as and when. You can pretty much stand together until his line starts boarding, then just join the other queue.
