If turning into a whingey monster at 6 is normal?

My DS is driving us nuts at the moment - crying over the tiniest thing, constant whinging, being belligerent and constant back chat. At first we thought he was coming down with something but it’s been about 3 months now and no snotty nose so guess I can’t blame a bug. I remember really enjoying last summer with the kids and he was great company whereas this summer has been endless bickering and behaviour management. I can’t remember if my DD did this and it’s a normal phase - is it a phase?🙏

My son was like this but before age 6 and carried on until he was about 18, sorry! He’s 24 now and fine.

My kid is 4 and like this. Really hope it passes.

It must pass right?

Sorry you have a while to go, it feels like the whinging passes then the teenager years start 😩

Kids go through big developmental changes (all the time it seems sometimes) and this is a big part of the personality changes.
Be consistent, don't give in to whining (or give in early) otherwise you're teaching your child that it works to get what they want.
Help them understand these feelings - I'm guessing a lot is around fairness - taking turns/empathy can take a while to learn.
Hope it passes! I couldn't be dealing with a lifetime of moaning 😄

@ZippyPeer i really hope it does pass! He got so upset at coming second on Sports day that the kid who won agreed to call it a tie (it definitely wasn’t). I was really impressed by the other kid letting him ‘win’ then I remembered that my kid was the little oik that had forced him into it….
