Sort of a moral dilemma?

Your genuine thoughts please…. (Long time mumsnet user/lurker)
i need to leave my place of work for many reasons and am applying for jobs. There are two I’d be happy to do. But one of them is much preferable. Problem is the other one interviews before the second - quite a few weeks before. Not to be big headed but if I’m offered the first one what do I say? Is it wrong to accept and then see what happens with the second one? Could I get into any trouble? Is it morally wrong? I can’t stay at my work any longer as it’s making me miserable and don’t want to just hold out for the second job in case I don’t get it. Sorry for slightly boring work related post but I cannot stay in my current work! Any advice? Anyone an employment expert?? Thanks.

Legally you're fine to do this, but don't sign a contract for job number 1 until you've interviewed for job number 2 - this could be tricky if they are weeks rather than days apart, and they may realise you are stalling or have a set date they want the contract signed by. Something to be aware of is if they are in the same industry, people talk so the powers that be at job number 1 may find out that you are interviewing for job number 2 if they have a working relationship. Hard to say without knowing details of the industry.

Could you contact job2 and ask to bring the interview forward?

I think I’ll have to. I plan to be honest with the second job and just see what happens. Thanks again.
