Deputy PM doest really mean much. It's mostly an honorific title. Presumably it softens his demotion from FCDO to MoJ.

A lawyer as Justice Secretary as was his predecessor. Which is in my view a good thing. Better than some of those we had in recent years, remember Chris Grayling and Liz Truss, for example.

Wasn't it Domenic Raab that had to step in as deputy when Boris had Covid so it does happen occasionally.

I think it is to soften his demotion, like a sweetener. I think it was similar with Raab as he wasn't happy about something and wanted the title
