Regarding this Etsy Seller?

Edit: shit sorry this is long! TLDR: Etsy seller said item was dispatched two weeks ago and kept me strung along but I’ve just got a message today saying it’s been shipped. AIBU to complain?

I’m an infrequent user of Etsy so I’m not sure if I’m being unreasonable and wanted to check before I sent an email complaint.

My Aunts dog died suddenly a few weeks ago and of course it’s really upset her. I wanted to do something nice for her so ordered via Etsy a personalised cartoon style drawing of her dog in a frame.

Im seeing her tomorrow (she lives 3 hours away so we don’t see each other often). When I ordered it I checked the expected delivery date and it was between Aug 22-25. Great, should be here in plenty of time.

The seller sent me a proof which I ok’d and the order moved to ‘dispatched’ on 20th August.

No tracking but I wasn’t worried. The time for expected delivery came and went so I sent a message and was assured it would be with me soon. I then got an ask (sent by the seller not just Etsy) to review the product. I replied that I still hadn’t received it and I was now concerned it was lost).

I was reassured it was definitely sent and to give it til the end of this week and if it hasn’t arrived they’ll send another one for free. Anyway, this afternoon I got an Etsy notification that it was ‘good news’ as my order had shipped and would be with me soon?

But wait, I thought dispatched meant it had shipped as this generated an estimate delivery date? So if it’s only just been shipped then the seller hadn’t sent it and has now only just done so which is why they asked me to wait til the end of the week?

Im really cross as it won’t be with me to give to my Aunt and I could have gone to other sellers if they’d been honest about their delivery times.

Have I understood this correctly?

I’ve had this before… usually it’s a seller who is purporting to be in the UK but isn’t. Message the seller and give them a chance to rectify before escalation via the Etsy resolution process. If they can’t give you an actual tracking number with the courier, it’s unlikely it’s even actually in transit from my experience.. sorry.

And leave an honest review so others don’t go through the same experience. it’s really annoying when a minority of sellers do this - just be honest so buyers can make an informed choice! Hope it turns up for you, it was a lovely thought.
