spoiler
It was absolutely mind-blowing, and the daughter's reaction was so, so weird. That is a deeply unhealthy relationship. How could she have said those things to her own daughter??! I couldn't believe that the daughter still wanted a relationship with her.

It’s honestly the most horrific thing I have ever seen. Absolutely evil to do that to your own child. I cannot fathom it at all!

There's a Reddit thread and there is so much more to this story that they didn't show.

There's an article that explains a lot more about the Owen situation but I can't bloody find it!

Truly shocking.

That poor child will probably cut the person off eventually, it's going to take a long time for her to get her head around.

I think she's going to need a lot of therapy to enable her to cut of completely, which she obviously needs to do.

That impressed me. He was angry but calm and decisive. I would have been doing my nut but he was focusing on what needed to be done

But seemingly more concerned about her lying about her employment than abusing her child!

NotThoseKindOfEggs · 02/09/2025 15:21

Kendra and her family dynamic were toxic, but can we also add Khloe’s parents to that? They were completely unsympathetic to Lauryn and her dad and I can absolutely see how Khloe was described (and shown) to be a bully/not a nice person. Some serious parenting classes needed in Beal City.

BoredZelda · 02/09/2025 15:23

I called it in the first 15 minutes.

Totally bizarre situation and the explanation made no sense.

It’s absolutely horrifying! Also just another reminder why children do not need phones

Sure. This was the childrens’ fault. 😆

How did she get the contact details of the new girlfriend though? Was that explained?

It said the mum had worked in IT so she was good at computers, getting info etc

TaupeMember · 02/09/2025 17:21

BoredZelda · 02/09/2025 15:24

Sure. This was the childrens’ fault. 😆

It leaves children at the mercy of people who wish them harm

Not that its the children's fault, they're the ones who need protecting

Hope thats clearer for you

SPOILER ALERT

Horrific, and even worse how people are saying the daughter must have been in on it because she didn't seem shocked when she found out. Anyone with insight into developmental trauma from a narcissist/cluster B parent knows that children often dissociate and present as emotionally blunted. The mother didn't even apologise in the moment, just hugged and invaded the daughter's space and said she couldn't be away from her...acting the victim, and saying she did it to protect her daughter...

It's all very typical if you have deal with one of these before. Total delusion and lack of accountability.

I so agree with this.

I was disturbed by many aspects of this documentary. Including Kendra’s obsession with Owen, who was essentially a young boy at the time. The documentary seemed to skim over this. How K is not on the sex offenders register is beyond me. The messages she was sending were grotesquely sexual, and repeated.

Why did the police not immediately separate K and L on arrival at the house? L is the victim here, K is the perpetrator and she’s clearly been abusing and manipulating her daughter for years. The level of enmeshment, orchestrated by K for her own sick reasons, was stark. It was sickening watching her continued manipulation by being all over L, when she clearly needed space to process.

I really hope L gets therapy, she seemed so dissociated (understandably) and like she still hadn’t really acknowledged what her mother had done. K also obviously needs intensive therapy but is probably beyond that, considering how she takes no responsibility at all and is minimising of the abuse she perpetrated.

I hope L can heal from this, and detach from her truly narcissistic mother.

I knew who it would be because that's the sort of thing my DM would have done to me including the constant reference to sex.

I saw the daughter reaction as resignation as I would have done. And like all children she still wanted a mother's love. I thought the Dad's focus was off, but then they had moved 4 times over a short period due to finances.

Plastictreees · 02/09/2025 17:54

Yes I also found it strange how the dad’s initial focus seemed to be on the fake job, rather than the 2 years of cyber abusing her daughter. Very odd dynamics.

With the right therapy she can. Poor Lauryn.
I managed to break free from my narcissistic mother who damaged me a lot.
Had really good regular therapy and it took 2 years, so it's possible.

Beal seems like such a claustrophobic and toxic place

SPOILER 🚨
Yes, it was obvious that the daughter was in shock at that point and wasn’t reacting. When the Mother was all over her hugging her and kissing her I just wanted to shout at the TV to get off her!! She definitely has Stockholm syndrome and has been manipulated and controlled by her mother for years!

I think the girl is going to have a lot of mental health problems in the future from this.
So many things are so bizarre about it,

Allbacktoschool · 09/09/2025 10:04

SPOILERS...

Wow, just finished this. So shocking - poor Lauren, Kendra took no responibility for any of it. Also afree that she should be on the Sex register list - obivously was unhealthily obsessed with Owen.

Has anyone seen this on Netflix?!

I said very early on this must have been an adult, and not a teen (based on the language used). I wouldn't have thought for a sec it could have been the mum. I thought school staff.

The mum didn't show any remorse or took any responsibility, just excuses. How can a mother do this to their child? I felt so so sorry for the girl and how she still loves her mum and is desperate for a relationship. Much must have happened in the last. She has clearly been messed up. who knows what her upbringing was like. It's a very unusual reaction. Poor girl. I
