Sad Pauly D GIF by A Double Shot At Love With DJ Pauly D and Vinny

So far today I have said 'no' to dd for

Taking the cheerios to play with in the living room
Trying to make a paddling pool in the hallway with water from the sink
Finding the vanish carpet cleaner and excitedly spraying it
Trying to eat more biscuits than allowed
Sitting on me
Refusing to eat lunch (pasta which she wanted) and trying again to have biscuits

Tomorrow morning, we will be back to normal. I've made it through!

My son is SEND so while I am looking forward to a break I'm also not looking forward to the inevitable phone calls about him taking the wheels off teachers cars*

*He hasn't done anything that extreme but he is an evil genius and I wouldn't put it passed him!

I'm dreading it!
DS1 is starting year 11 so straight into revision for mocks. DS2 doesn't really enjoy school so I feel like I constantly have to jolly him along. I love the slower pace of the holidays- not chivvying them out of bed or nagging about homework and revision. I wish they had another month off!

Yep. Mine went back on Thursday and I've had one call from school and one call from after school already. I hope it all settles down.

Oh okay, mine is only 6

I hated school myself so can understand the need for life at a slower pace - and I remember dreading the gcse year 🥺

I can't wait. My oldest has been mostly fine all holiday and suddenly within the last 2 days is being so obnoxious I can't stand it. I appreciate maybe he's anxious about going back to school and I've tried being understanding but I'm at my limit now. Roll on Wed!

My youngest also just had a tantrum as I asked him to try his school shoes on so I can check them. Apparently that makes me a terrible parent making him do something so outrageous .

I've got big plans for doing dick all for the first couple of days they're back (sahp so I've been with them all summer).

😄😄 roll on weds girl. Its just me and dd as well, I've been with her all summer

That reminds me, I need to double check dd's shoes! That's if I can pin her down for a few seconds

Tomorrow i'm gonna come, sit in bed, electric blanket on, and do fuck all for a few hours 😍

Dreading it. DD is 12 and starting a new school as a scholarship kid - and I’m sure she’ll love it, but I’ve loved having her home.

MerryGrimaceShake · 01/09/2025 18:24

Absolutely sick to the back teeth of the chaos, having to do something “fun” all the time, whining about how bored they are anyway and the lack of a proper holiday this year!

6 weeks is too long, the whole holiday system needs a reform but that’s another thread.

I’m counting down to Weds, openly Grin Gin

Icecreamandcoffee · 01/09/2025 18:40

I'm on an hourly count down to Wednesday. I'm 36 weeks pregnant with a 4 Yr old at home. I've got bad 3rd trimester morning sickness, back ache, bump ache and feel absolutely huge and ill most of the day. I only work term time so it's been me a dd all summer and dh has worked the entire holidays apart from weekends. I'm knackered and fed up.

We haven't been too bad up until last week when the whining and boredom set in. My parents have come 2x per week to help but can't do anymore due to other commitments. I'm struggling to drive so we've had quite a bit of time at home last week and this. The house looks like it belongs to a pack of raccoons, there are constantly toys and "craft" supplies everywhere, constant demands for snack but refusing to eat lunch or dinner so every mealtime is a battle and I've cut off snacks until meals are eaten which has led to tantrums. I have absolutely nothing out the loft for baby coming, that happens Wednesday morning. I need to get the uniform out that i have washed and named earlier on in the holiday ready tomorrow.

mynameiscalypso · 01/09/2025 18:41

I have spent a lot of today being a Pokemon character. I have had to walk around on my hands and knees and am only allowed to say my character’s name.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 01/09/2025 18:53

I miss the summer holidays when they were younger!

DS is going into year 13. Straight into ucas application and admission tests. He’s had a great summer, a healthy mix of admission tests revision, driving lessons and practice, beach days and camping trips. This year is going to fly by, I know it.

amylou8 · 01/09/2025 18:54

Mine are in their 20s and I still vividly remember the relief of walking out of the school gates on their first day back. YANBU

Oh best of luck to her with the scholarship 🥰

I wish I could feel the same, but mine took a nap and will be up until the wee hours 😪

Then its a 6am start

If it helps, my flat is the same but I am not pregnant so have myself to blame 😭

Schools in my area are back on Thursday and I'm also counting down the hours. I'm done. DS is done (also non verbal ASC) and I would rather be in bed but he got up at 4 am as punishment for me working yesterday and not taking him out for long enough to burn off all his energy.

I have a really important day today and I am feeling pretty bitter about school not starting yesterday... Only two more days to go!

Mine was up at 4 too!!

Two more days girl, you've got this. Just think, you'll be able to sit down without worrying about what ds is doing while you're trying to work!

Mine starts secondary school tomorrow, so mixed feelings as it’s a big thing. Having said that, I don’t work on Fridays and I can’t wait have some headspace.

Foregone · 02/09/2025 06:04

This is our first summer holiday and it has gone better than I thought it would and so quick. It is just this week that I'm struggling with.

Natsku · 02/09/2025 06:12

Mine have been back a few weeks now (not in the UK), was quite happy for school to start back for my teenager so she would stop spending all day in bed! But my youngest started 1st grade and that made me sad, because he's no longer a little child, he's a (in his words) a schoolager now and I wasn't ready for that as he's still my baby.

But I was working all summer so didn't have to entertain anyone or think up what to do for lunch for 10 weeks. But I stayed at home when my DD was younger and I still was always a bit sad when the summer holidays ended, I enjoyed them (except for having to think up what to do for lunch for 10 weeks)

TheNightingalesStarling · 02/09/2025 06:25

I was so looking forward to today. I WFH and have had two Secondary age kids (very nice individuals, but regularly needing things) for most of the summer. Had a quiet worked day planned and just PEACE.

DH is only bloody WFH as well and he is so blinking noisy with all his damn meetings. Grrrrr....
He's out a good chunk of tomorrow hopefully, perhaps until Friday evening.
