To go for my 3rd job this year?

I've made stupid choices and I feel like an idiot.
I'm in teaching but moved into working for alternative provisions and SEMH type schools, also did supply for several years.

I got offered a job at a small AP and lasted 2 weeks. With hindsight I should have left on the first day, there was one toilet for all the staff which was broken, and I found the head sleazy. He kept calling me 'kid' then said, 'you're scared of me, aren't you.' His wife was the deputy head and I found out she'd served prison time.
I had to practically beg him for a contract and he kept saying 'yeah yeah I'll do it tomorrow ', I got one after 12 days because I said I'd leave otherwise. The school was filthy and I had to spend my breaks washing pots.
So I quit, and stupidly took on a role that has limited progression and doesn't pay well (26.7k). There isn't promotion as such, you apply for higher up roles competing with everyone else for an extra 3.5k, I do like this role but it was a daft choice money wise and I need the money.

Anyway, I've been offered a temp to perm role in a school paying to scale, and basically about 9k more than I earn currently. It's tempting but as I say it'll be my 3rd job.
I'm worried what people will think and I'll get labelled as a job hopper and unstable. The money and holidays will be much better, and as I say I really need the money to pay for home renovations, driving lessons and so on.

I do like my current job, it just wasn't a wise choice.

The new school looks like a 'proper' school too with a full staff team, not just a dodgy husband and wife duo, and proper facilities.

Go for it.

Thank you, I'm just worried I'll go for it and there'll be some kind of cock up there too.
My current role is only until April 2026 but may get extended, maybe I should just wait until then?

I’d go for it. They don’t think you have done anything wrong or they would not have offered you the job. It pays more, has progression and may not be available in April.

True, I'm thinking if it were an issue for them they wouldn't have offered it me.
I suppose I'm worried about what family and friends will think, most of them have worked for the same company forever and they already think I'm some sort of erratic mess.

Oh don’t worry about other people. You will be the source of gossip for 5 minutes then you will be old news. Do what’s right for you

Cathkidson36 · 30/08/2025 11:56

Thank you. I need to just gain the confidence to do it.
