Just booked double baggage on Ryanair by mistake.

Booked two extra sodding cabin bags. BOTH WAYS.
Already booked on original booking. Actually wanted larger cabin + priority.
Tell me what I should take to take advantage of my 80kg allowance/make the loss of £200 feel better. 😂🤷‍♀️

Appreciate it’s not am AIBU but feel bloody Ryanair are deffo being U given that I got straight in touch to explain my mistake and….. guess what?

Kitchen sink 😄 (as in 'we took everything but the kitchen sink")

SupposesRoses · 25/08/2025 21:26

Where are you going and what type of holiday? Could you take an air fryer and save money on eating out? A metal detector and find coins on the beach to offset your loss? Something not available in that country to sell on?
On the way back, perhaps there’s something cheaper there you can stock up on.

Chumpfriend · 25/08/2025 21:30

It’s Spain. For 5 days. I was already overpacking. 🤦‍♀️ There are reasons.

Hating the thought of Ryanair get the extra dollar for no.bloody.cases.

I could take empty cases and import a load of olive oil?

I’d say fill the case with entire legs of ham but I don’t think that’s legal any more.

Nope! Coz olive oil is liquid and can't go in cabin bags!

I'd phone RyanAir and ask if you can change one to a checked in bag so you can bring wine back!

WilliamBell · 25/08/2025 21:39

Take an empty case, and sell the space to other passengers, slightly undercutting the Ryanair fee?

WilliamBell · 25/08/2025 21:39

It's pretty appalling that they won't refund you though. Can you do a credit card chargeback?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/08/2025 21:44

I've only narrowly avoided this myself, largely because even when you've paid for luggage the "summary" - which is actually offering yet another bag purchase - doesn't make it terribly clear you've already done it

Guess it's a nice little earner for them though Hmm

Chumpfriend · 25/08/2025 21:45

These are checked in bags! So I’m basically travelling like a VIP without any of the VIP contents 😎

And there’s a t&c specifically for bags. Clearly it’s a thing…

I’m thinking undercutting the Ryanair fee to friends is the way forward - except I bet they’ve all sorted their baggage perfectly already.

And the bit where they ask is this your bag and did you pack it…

Exactly this. It was not very clear at all and I booked the bloody flights months ago.

I can’t remember what I did last week ffs.

Cancel your accommodation, camp instead and take your camping gear!

Sorry Op, this has made me giggle as it's the sort of thing that would happen to me! I hope you have a lovely trip!

What about Christmas shopping from shops not available here? I'm not sure what shops that is. Oh Melatonin! It's over the counter there. And Tretinoin face cream (some pharmacies still sell it over the counter there). I'm sure you didn't want to become a minor drug pusher when you returned by it was Ryanair's fault!

herbalteabag · 25/08/2025 21:59

I would complain and say it wasn't clear. It's not right at all if they won't refund you.
I did something pretty stupid on my own flights this summer - I didn't enter my teenager's name at all, just his dob so ended up with two tickets with my own name on! There is a fee to change a name but they did it for free luckily - wasn't Ryan Air though!

This is actually a great idea. Everyone’s getting European cosmetics for Christmas 🥰😂

Ryanair actually said to me on the chat - don’t worry, you don’t need to bring the extra cases 😂🙃🙄🤦‍♀️

Could you call back and plead your case? I did that with Whizz Air (remember them??) when we were going to Iceland. I had to speak to about three different people before they agreed to remove my extra case. I think they were just fed up of me calling 😂 Serves them right that they went out of business as they were crap.

I’m going to call tomorrow and see what they say but not holding out much hope 🤦‍♀️

In case it makes you feel any better, I made same mistake several weeks ago. With Ryanair also. Didn’t realise until online checking. Luckily it was just for one leg.

And we could have brought an extra case home but I didn’t think of it. So I had to pay again to bring that case home on a later trip 😂. (Visiting DD who had a case to send back…)

It’s so infuriating.
I’m more bothered about Michael O’Leary getting £200 for jack shit that I am about anything else 😂
But. Have had a few of these recently so am convinced it’s deliberate - things are made difficult to relieve you of a few quid. Not enough to make a proper fuss but enough to be profitable 🤷‍♀️
