Argh why do wedding photographers do this ?!

Just looking through my friend’s online wedding album and there is the most hideous photo of me ever!! And I’m not being overly critical… my eyes are half closed and god knows what I’m doing with my mouth but I look like I’m doing an impression of a pig 😑

I wasn’t an important guest and it was just a snap from the drinks reception so no way did it need to be included! I’m so embarrassed and I know it’s bad as I’ve already had a few texts about it. AIBU to think the photographer should have deleted that one ?!

If it was a photo of you alone, it was a bit shitty to include it.

SnailPail · 25/08/2025 19:44

I think we tend to be more critical of photos of ourselves but I completely agree. The trend for “documentary” style photography and digital technology makes these kinds of shots much more likely.

I’d actually prefer the old school posed shots.

On the bright side, I’m not sure many people look at their wedding album very often. We got married seven years ago, and I’ve viewed them twice - once when we got them, and once when DD (who is 5) asked to see them.

On the contrary, I miss the very old style photos, when it was print photography and you had a limit of 24 or 36 pictures per film, we were much less dismissive of non perfect shots. My aunt and uncle celebrated their diamond wedding and in their album is a pic of my mum, she wasn’t the main focus of the pic, but the expression on her face was ridiculous, it would have been deleted without a second thought in today’s perfect insta society, but it’s a really real moment from 60 years ago, that made me smile so much. Also looking through old school pics, when we took shots with crappy cameras, there was a realism about the pictures that you just don’t get in today’s clinically edited world.

on the flip side, not everyone got to see them, where as these days you’re into treble digits before you know it, 30 years ago you’d take the album with you to a few places if you had 20 people looking that was it.

After our wedding DH and I were asked to choose which ones we wanted in the album... are you sure it wasn't your friend that decided to include it? My considerations though, nothing worse than an awful snap for all to see.

Fragmentedbrain · 25/08/2025 20:22

I'm a one woman revenge on wedding photographers because I can ruin any pic, I don't care and I don't get freaked out by their attempts at cutting humour

Ahahahaha fuck all of yall wedding photographers

tulippa · 25/08/2025 20:28

Who knows what goes through their minds. You'd think they'd want every photo to be as flattering as possible. DH was best man at his friend's wedding. I went along as his plus one but didn't know anyone apart from the bride and groom. It was just before digital photography had really taken off and the photographer put together a professional album for them. The very first picture as you opened the album was a full sized photo of me (essentially a complete rando) standing by a tree. We were all Confused.

Ours was quite alternative and in hindsight, our very typical hotel-sit down dinner wedding probably wasn’t her ideal gig. She’d photographed for my brother’s wedding but they had a bit of a DIY rustic barn shabby chic thing going on and their photos were amazing. She clearly wasn’t as ‘into’ ours.

I had an old uni friend come with her boyfriend and they are both heavily tattooed and pieced; she spent AGES taking pictures of them over anyone else and we have loads of great ones of them 🙄 but barely any decent ones of anyone else.

BatchCookBabe · 25/08/2025 20:43

Context needed @MummytoTM Were you alone, or just with a couple of people? Or part of a much bigger group?

namechangedforvalidreasons · 25/08/2025 20:45

I destroyed my pal’s wedding photos just by my unremitting inability to not look like a hostage in a posed photo. I was a bridesmaid. I look normal
for the most part but the lens is not good to me.

It was a whole thing. My pal was clearly annoyed, which was both fair and unfair, as she had paid £££ and I did pretty much fuck every one I was in but also I cannot help my photogenicity (is this a word).

I felt the photographer should either have had a word with me or ousted me for the common good but hey ho, we cannot all be Margot Robbie can we 😂

MummytoTM · 25/08/2025 20:45

So there are 3 of us in the photo - I’m on the end so I could have been cut out!! The other 2 are smiling and look lovely tbf…but there are several similar photos of us where we all look good so I don’t know why it was included 😫

Some photographers post everything they shoot, which is ridiculous. On a typical day long event I shoot around 500-800 frames, and select 150-200 shots, that are worth sharing. Sounds like your shot wouldn't have made my selection.

Understandably, couples struggle to find good photographers, as it's not something they do often, and explains why wedding photography is so often mediocre.

I love what these guys do, .... link although they haven't posted anything new for 7 years!
I would love to know what you think...

P.S. Just mail the photographer with a link to the offending image and ask them to kindly remove it.
