Too much conflicting information for me to wade through!

Agh someone please help me out!
I have never had an adult passport, my 7yr old dc hasn't got one either. I'm going to apply for both of us for a planned trip next spring. My problem is this...

  1. I'm the only parent on dc birth certificate. Do I need any details from the father? Does he need to give a letter of permission? I was a single mother from pregnancy, so he's never been around.
  2. Shall I apply for mine and dcs together, or do I need to get myself one first?

There's so much conflicting advice online and I'm too tired to look any more 🙃 Thank you!

I would just start the process and get what you need as you go. I'd probably get mine out of the way first as then you just input your passport number for your daughter's application.

  1. No.
  2. Doesn't really matter one way or the other. Might be easier or more affordable to do them in separate months, in which case, do yours first.

I recently got a passport for my child and I'm also the only parent on the birth certificate. I didn't put his details on the passport application, not even his name. They were fine with that, didn't even query it, just sent the passport. You definitely don't need to contact him. Hope that helps x
