Booked a trip to Thomas Land tomorrow night at Drayton in one of their themed rooms. My eldest is really looking forward to it. Typically my youngest had an awful night where she's gone down with a bad cough and cold and is now miserable. Tricky morning bless her as she's coughing constantly and got a streaming nose. Checked T and C's and no refund, plus my eldest would be gutted if we didn't go. What would you do? Would you take the youngest and try to power through? Or should my husband or I just take our eldest and one of us stay behind? I can't see it being any good for anyone we all good for anyone as we're all sharing a hotel room too. Such a shame as we've been looking forward to it for a while 🫠 opinions needed!

How old is the poorly one?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/08/2025 11:56

Obv one takes oldest and other one stays home with ill child.

Dreamless112 · 23/08/2025 12:07

I had the exact same situation before our trip to Thomas Land! We decided to go ahead with the trip. The hotel is so close to the theme park that my husband was able to enjoy the park with our older child while youngest and I napped in the hotel. Once the younger child's medicines (otc painkiller and antihistamine) started to kick in after a few hours we joined them. Staff at the hotel were very kind and helpful- gave us DVDs to put on in the room and let us check in early.

One of you takes the oldest and the other stays home. It’s the only real option. No point in dragging a sick child around.

sparklystar333 · 23/08/2025 12:19

I would go and take LO with you with Calpol etc. It's not a massive place and not too far for one of you to walk back to the hotel if LO needs a sleep. Maybe she will perk up with the sights and sounds, is she in a pushchair? The weather looks favourable.

Overthebow · 23/08/2025 12:22

I’d see how she is tomorrow when you go, and if better all of you go and if she’s really not well then one of you takes older Dc.

thismummydrinksgin · 23/08/2025 12:23

one stay home or calpol the little one up and pushchair, retreat to hotel if needed x

Lyocell · 23/08/2025 12:23

Depends how sick she is. Sometimes it can be such a short 24 hour thing or they can remarkably bounce back when they’ve had brufen. It would be a shame not to go and then she perks up by lunch time!

One stays home with the ill child, the other goes with the well child.

BlondeFool · 23/08/2025 13:31

Dose up with calpol, make sure cozy in buggy and one of you can always go to the hotel

RosesAndHellebores · 23/08/2025 13:35

Take the older one, have a break from the unwell one, treat yourselves and when the older one is tucked up in bed have a glass of wine and read and relax.

Thanks again all, thought it was worth an ask, the staff were brilliant and they've let me move it to next week! 🎉
