I bought a new dress from a company this week, it was around half hour from my house and they offer click and collect so went with this option as needed it for a holiday! When picking it up I overheard the staff saying the owners dog had done a poo in the warehouse amongst stock and they were fed up of cleaning it. Red flag one (i should have known!)
Once home and opened the item it had an overwhelming smell of perfume and had clearly been worn, I took it back to them this week and the owners dog was sitting in one of the baskets of stock clearly used for storing customer goods.
I dont mind dogs, my son has one, but aibu to be disgusted by this?!

Its quite a well known brand with a lot of followers, not what you would consider a "mickey mouse" type company

Yuk!

What makes you think you might be unreasonable?

They were so blase about it, and surely for a relatively popular company they'd have processes in place?! With all the dog lovers these days I wasnt sure if this is now also the norm! Started doubting myself!

My name speaks for itself, I run the returns department for an outdoor clothing company.
it looks as though who ever handles returns for this company weren’t vigilant enough.
Most companies put returns back to stock after they have been inspected.
Part of my inspection includes the sniff test. If a returned garment smells, hang it to air for a couple of days, if the smell goes, then all is good, if the smell remains, the return is rejected.
You would be surprised by how many people think they are getting “never tried on” merchandise. This is not true. I’m not sure what people think companies do with returns but if they weren’t resold then companies would go bust.

Did you have to mention the dog in your post.

Odd question, it’s relevant to her op. Perhaps if companies had more feedback they’d do better. I wouldn’t want to buy clothing from anywhere where a dog was roaming around and able to poo amongst the merchandise.

What type of person takes their dog to work in a clothes shop....

Stephybris62 · 23/08/2025 09:24

Im just a bit flabbergasted tbh!
I know you see dogs everywhere now and I dont mind dogs, but do dogs also come before health and safety and basic standards now 🤣
