DS is hosting a sleepover with some of his friends for his birthday - his first one! We were supposed to be camping (tent, marshmallows over a campfire, etc) but it's not possible. The plan now is for them all to "camp" in our master bedroom (our largest bedroom) and DH and I will stay in our spare bedroom.

But, we want to decorate the master bedroom to look more like the camping experience. So far, we have sheets to hang from the ceiling to look like the inside of a tent. We have a projector and screen (already had up) and can project a YouTube camping scene (campfire, night sky, etc). We have wool tartan blankets that look "camp-esque" and some camping chairs. Because it's a party - also doing some helium balloons.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on how to better decorate for this! Thanks :)

Some tree branches in a large vase/jug or two on your dressing table? With fairy lights in?

A lava lamp instead of your fire projection?

A bucket outside your bedroom door for shoes.

Head torches - one for each child. Make that the only light (apart from the firelight lava lamp).

Sounds like a rubbish idea. Do you have a garden, can they not camp there?

@TheSandgroper I really wondered where this was going

The OP says they considered that and it's not possible so why be so negative. Hats off to them for trying to do something a bit different.

FWIW we were once hosting a sleepover for DD and her friends and considered putting the tent up in the garden so they could sleep out. Very safe garden, good weather forecast. Unfortunately one of the other parents was dead against it, completely freaked out at the thought of their DD sleeping outside so we dropped the camping idea. You don't know the circumstances so don't criticise.

I thought the bucket might be for something else 😂😂😂

Charming!

DS’s friend has a disability that impacts his respiratory system. He’s not safe to sleep with air that is too cold - advice given after a recent hospital visit.

You’re right though. The plan sounds shit and this child should just die instead 🙄

Well why didn’t you just say that in the beginning.
I’m sure you have made that one up though…

could they actually have a couple of tents up in your bedroom instead of the sheets from ceiling etc? depending on age a lot of kids would love that

Fuck up.

This sounds like a great night OP! My wee boy would have loved this!

Cutouts of Christmas tree style trees on the walls, a few big potted plants if you have them, and a woodland white noise track (or a few tracks) with sounds of crickets chirping, frogs ribbeting, owls whoo-ing, maybe wind rustling through trees.

My DD once took over my bedroom for the same sort of reason. I had fairy lights all around the edge which just created a very nice vibe.

I did. The OP says we’re supposed to be camping but it’s not possible. Don’t call me a liar because you don’t like that reality makes you look nasty.
