Friend’s dog obsession driving me mad

AIBU to consider ending the friendship over this?

A close friend of quite a few years got a puppy last year. Ever since then her life has literally revolved around him. Every conversation is about the dog and he must come to every outing. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a particular fan - I’ve never liked small breeds and find them yappy + lacking in manners.
She even has an instagram account for him (trying to become a pet influencer…) and got angry when I unfollowed - I don’t need endless videos and pointless updates about a bloody dog. She writes the posts as if she is the dog - to be honest I can’t believe that a grown adult is acting like this. It got to a point last week where I snapped and told her that I didn’t care about her dog’s new clip and didn’t want to see the photo she was trying to show me. Between this and the unfollowing of the dog account she hasn’t spoken to me since.

For the record I’m a dog owner and lover myself, not just a disgruntled dog hater. I actively try not to shove her in everyone else’s faces as I believe dogs are like children - your own is interesting.. anyone else’s, not so much!

Am I being an asshole or would this bore the life out of anyone else?

Loads of stuff about my friends bores me. We just move onto more common topics.

Kind of academic really isn't it? The friendship is over.

But if she’s not spoken to you since you snapped isn’t it all a bit moot and she has already chosen to end the friendship?

And FWIW, I have a close friend who is a ‘dog influencer’ (although I suppose it’s her dog, not her) and she hasn’t had to pay for dog food for over a year!

I wouldn’t say so. She’s quite a moody person (diagnosed MH issues) so it’s not uncommon for her to go off in a huff for a while over things that for other people would be a minor issue. I think that between this and the dog situation it may be the end on my side

I'm can't be sure you're acting like an asshole but I am sure you're not acting like a close friend of quite a few years.

I've voted YANBU to end the friendship for her sake.

It's not really just the dog though is it?
Sounds like you've outgrown each other.
No problem in admitting it and moving on.

I started a Tik Tok for my senior dog a few months ago. It took off in a way I never imagined.
He's got almost 40,000 followers now. Has millions of views.
He gets thousands of lovely messages every week. It's great 😃
And yes, like a proud dog mom, I bore everyone with his Social Media success at every opportunity. (Like right now 😅😂)
