Teacher on sick leave but always out!

Hello,

My child goes to a lovely primary school. One of the mums at school is also a TA in the reception class, although I am
not a close friend of hers I am
a friend of a friend and my child is in her class at school.

Anyway, a few months ago she had an operation and was signed off sick from work and for the rest of the school year (due to return in Sept). That was a hell
of a long time off and then the school holidays.

during her sick leave, she has been at weddings dancing, out drinking (I’ve seen shared on Facebook) and I saw a video of her at the end of school year do up singing and dancing with other teachers! (Shown to me by a teacher who retired). Apparently not able to physically do her job but can be off sick. She’s now said she will be doing a phased return in sept as she’s still in slight pain but I can’t get my head around it. How can she get away with it!! It left the class short staffed and seems unfair. She was honestly jumping around dancing and singing in the videos

Mind your own business. You are not privy to her medical condition, what's on her sicknote or any return to work arrangements.

Leaving my child’s class minus a TA while she’s out dancing but telling people she’s sore and can’t work

None of your business.

Do you think you should be reporting her GP or the consultant at the hospital for fraudulent fit to work notes ?

and if she was signed off for so long, why did the school not get in a temp TA / agency TA ?

Fishingstories · 18/08/2025 00:28

All I know is someone jumping around and necking Prosecco is able to sit in a classroom.

It's up to the school to sort out adequate staffing issues. She's off sick and you don't need to be privy to her reasons. Her medical team do. Enough said

You sound nice. What stories you fishing for?

Fishingstories · 18/08/2025 00:33

obviously she’s made out she needs more time off than needed. She said tummy still painful. Not after a bottle of Prosecco 😂

You have no idea what the situation really is. Mind your own business.

Mind your own business, all you need to know is she's off sick and presumably signed off by her GP.

My work colleague was signed off sick for 18 months. She looked fantastic, regularly bumped into her in Tesco, softplay, nursery and local cafes etc. To the untrained eye she looked as fit and well as everyone else.

But, on the days we didn't see her, she was in hospital for the chemotherapy that was keeping her alive that bit longer so she could spent extra time with her very young kids before the cancer killed her after 18 months. It was amazing what a nice wig and make up did to hide how ill she really was.

Unless you were at the hospital or at the GPs how on earth could you?

In what way are you qualified to make clinical judgements about her fitness to work?

Because she’s told people exactly what happened ! And how she’s got the most possible time off plus more.

Is that the best you can come up with when it's pointed out to you that you're not privy to her medical condition and what you're saying is based on gossip and hearsay?
