I’m never ever going to live this down am I?!

36 weeks pregnant, booked somebody in to clean my sofa, oven and our bedroom carpets. He’s a friend of a friend, runs a business and he’s been brilliant when we have used him before.

Last night, I test to say I unexpectedly had to go out this morning and would it be okay to put my keys in our key safe and he can let himself in and I’d transfer him the money when I got home, he replied absolutely no problem and he’d be at mine between 9 and 9:30.

My 2 year old is my alarm clock, between 7 and 7:30 every day. I prepped last night by putting DD’s toys all in her toy box etc so her bedroom floor was clear, I took our decorative cushions off the sofa and piled them up, our bedroom floor is completely clear anyway and thought we could just get up in the morning, have breakfast and a wash and go.

I woke up to him stood in my hallway asking me if I was okay, I was fast asleep in bed still! DD was still asleep, it was 9:30! I couldn’t even jump up out of bed and let him crack on with cleaning the oven or sofa first as it was so hot last night I ended up taking my pjs off so I was naked! I was so disorientated, I said I’m so so sorry and he just asked if I’m definitely okay as he knows I’m heavily pregnant, I said yes and I’d just overslept. He was so kind and said “message me when you’re up and I’ll book you in for another day” and left. I still transferred him the money as otherwise he’d of lost work today and because he knows us, he doesn’t require a deposit when we book.

I AM MORTIFIED! I’ve messaged to apologise again, I was asleep on my back and knew my mouth was open as my mouth was dry and I’d obviously been in a deep sleep, the absolute shame.

I stop thinking about it 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's ok, this heatwave really messes with your sleep! You have that on top of the pregnancy as an excuse.

Chompingatthebeat · 13/08/2025 21:52

He'll probabky think that its just a pregnancy related thing, what does he know?! But ive never heard of a sofa cleaner

BellissimoGecko · 13/08/2025 21:52

It’s fine! I mean, it’s a shame that you didn’t get the cleaning done, but I’m sure he won’t be gossiping about you to anyone else!

itsmeits · 13/08/2025 21:56

I'm sure he was relived you were okay OP
Poor man may have thought he'd walked in on you dead. Don't worry about it, hope it didn't mess up your day to much

ClareBlue · 13/08/2025 21:59

Anyone who has a job going into people's homes see this sort of thing all the time. Nobody gives it a second thought. As someone who visited people's houses for 20 years, I've seen all sorts of things and none of what you described would even be considered unusual. A pregnant women having a lie in during a heatwave. That's just normal.

We have someone in to clean our sofas every year.

embarassed6 · 13/08/2025 22:05

Thanks everyone, I’m still burning with shame 😂 doesn’t help that I called DH at work and he was in hysterics and said it’s a good job I didn’t have my bare bum out 🤦🏻‍♀️

We do too, I didn’t know it was unusual! Or unheard of!

Thank you it didn’t luckily as I was planning on popping into my mums for an hour before so I just skipped that bit 🤦🏻‍♀️

Nopenousername · 13/08/2025 22:15

@Chompingatthebeatwhere have you been? Under a rock? I get mine professionally cleaned at least once every 8-10 months!

ExitPursuedByABare · 13/08/2025 22:17

@SomeOfTheTrouble

So why is her DH saying it’s a good job she didn’t have her bum out?

Yes he did! Thank god I had the covers over me. I leave our bedroom door open at night so I can hear our DD in the night at her stair gate on the rare occasion she feels unwell and calls out for me or her Dad. I couldn’t even jump up as I had no pjs on, I was just laying awkwardly on my back apologising 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well I’m not sure, as I’m not her DH, but I’m guessing he means that it’s a good job her bum was covered by the duvet and not on show?

As in, it’s a good job that the covers were over me and I hadn’t turned on my side and pulled the covers off of me in my sleep or anything

This did make me laugh, sorry OP! He sounds nice and I'm sure he's not judging you, so don't be embarrassed. Hopefully he didn't realise you were in the buff under the covers!

It’s okay, my DH was in hysterics on the phone at the thought of me having a conversation with him whilst laying flat on my back with the duvet up to my neck not able to move. I’m still very embarassed but it seems less mortifying today 😂

I misread at first and thought you had jumped out of the bed. Now that would've been embarrassing!!

Glad you and DD got a lie in anyhow. It was good of you to pay him anyhow.

Fwiw I get sofas cleaned about once every 2 years. When you see the dirt that comes out it will make you want to do it more. They get absolutely filthy
