What did cleaner do with two watermelons

Cleaners came today (two cleaners once a fortnight for big/deep clean)
Part of this is cleaning the fridge and oven.
Came home and two large half melons have gone. One I got a while ago so possibly almost on its way out, the other I only got yesterday (still wrapped in cellophane)

Feels petty to text and ask where they have gone

If you have a cleaner or you are a cleaner, do you chuck food out if cleaning the fridge??

They’re pretty expensive where we are and I got the recent one for a picnic tomorrow

I would send a casual msg, something like “I can’t seem to find the watermelon I brought yesterday! Dont suppose you know where it went?”

I’m a bit embarrassed in case they chucked it out in case they thought it was off and I was gross to keep it 🙈
This has also happened before with garlic 😬

My cleaner always throws away my fruit. The outside might look a bit manky but the inside is still ok for juice and it really annoys me. I now have to hide my fruit in a cupboard to save it

They shouldn't be chucking stuff out of your fridge, surely? I've never heard of cleaners doing that.

Maybe they thought it was 2 halves of the same watermelon and assumed the wrapped one was also on its way out?

You need to have the convo, as then if they did you can be like can you not chuck food out unless I ask type thing or be like chuck anything that you think is off or whatever.

I think it’s reasonable to ask them if they have thrown your food away. I am assuming they aren’t in your bin?

Have you checked the bin? I think it's reasonable to ask and if they have been disposed of before you yourself would get rid of them (same with the garlic) then you'd be well within your rights to ask that when they clean the fridge if they can please refrain from chucking any food out.

Is it in the bin ? That’s the first thing to check surely

My old cleaner did get rid of some stuff when she cleaned my fridge one time. So it does happen, if that's what you want to know.
It was stuff that most people wouldn't have kept I freely admit! Very end's of jars, very old chillies.

They take the bin-bag so it’s just a new, empty bin bag in the bin

Tell them to stay out of the fridge and you'll do that bit.

Just message the cleaner.

"Hi. Do you know where the melon from the fridge is? They are for a picnic tomorrow. Thanks x"

Cleaner here.. By prior discussion I clean and discard manky food in a fridge...

I would ask them. They probably thought it was old, at least if you ask they won’t throw food away next time.

Perhaps she was asked to carry them to the staff quarters at Kellerman's Mountain Lodge. 🍉🍉

...And is currently learning a fabulous dance routine, including a lift, which she will perform at the end of the summer season.

Going forward, get some post it notes and just stick them on what you want to keep or have a clear out of your own fridge the night before she comes round and text her saying you've sorted the food so please just clean the fridge, dont clear it out.
