Noise from neighbour garden

Lived here for 15 years, noise didn’t used to bother me, small Victorian terrace. Is this an age thing now I am mid 40s?

Neighbours have side return now and doors open constantly throughout summer. Loud voices so am party to everything - like being with them. Hear pans in the kitchen etc, chat about all their day to day matters. They are doing nothing wrong, but it puts me off going outside. Usually in garden alone which perhaps exacerbates it.

YABU - wouldn’t bother me!
YANBU - I would feel the same

These sliding doors/bifolds are causing a lot of problems where people forget that all the neighbours can now hear everything going on inside the house.

No people just cooking and chatting wouldn’t bother me even if I was in the garden alone

Couldn't care less what the neighbours are doing. It's normal noise. 🤷‍♀️

Put some music on to drown it out?

BejewelledCat · 11/08/2025 18:51

Yep, it's like that here. Our gardens are small and the people behind have put in bifold doors across the back of their house and their garden is now just the 10ft from the doors to our shared fence. They have the doors open constantly with music playing, television loudly broadcasting, conversations etc. I think that because I'm a quiet neighbour they don't realise how intrusive their noise is. I can't sit outside unless I want to listen to daytime TV or radio 4. Maybe I should move my stereo into the garden, put on some Slipknot and see how they like it.

I know what you mean. I do wonder because our garden and other neighbors are generally quiet they have no idea what it is like

I too think they don’t realise you can hear everything.
Mine dont. They had theirs open at 130am this morning banging and clattering dishes and pots while they chatted. They actually wore me up it was so loud when they started smashing up cardboard boxes to put in the bin. Bang bang bang. Fuck knows what they were hitting them with. You’d think it was 6pm not after midnight. The life of people on cocaine who dont work. Up half the night and abed half the day. Really annoying when the rest of us need sleep for work.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head
