White sugar turned brown in canister

I've looked on the Internet for this and not finding relevant answers.
Last week the sugar in the lidded canister, kept in a cupboard was pure white. I just went to it today & some of the grains have turned brown. Does this mean it's gone bad? It's been in the canister probably 3 or 4 months as I don't use it much.

Is it not from someone putting a wet spoon in coffee and then putting the same spoon in the sugar?

We'll need a photo. Is it clumped, is it random brown grains, has it been warm?

Chakhakhan77 · 11/08/2025 18:05

Ignore me, I remember tipping a load of brown sugar sachets in, thinking they were white! I hadn't got my glasses on when I did it. Can this thread be taken down?
