To wonder why so many threads get reported and deleted?

I am of the view that unless someone has said something that constituted a crime (racism, hate speech etc) then the thread shouldn’t be deleted?

I think mumsnet is somewhat of an echo chamber on certain topics and not really reflective of society’s views as a whole - threads on certain topics seem to always be reported and deleted.

It's the new Online Safety Act.

Anything that could be seen as offensive will be taken down because Mumsnet HQ can be fined for allowing the content on the platform.

Remember. Free Speech is only free until someone objects.

Also think there are quite a few trolls and Mn pick up on them besides the fact if threads are breaking Talk Guidelines they will delete them x

RockItLikeRocketFuel · 11/08/2025 14:20

I often wonder why MN persist with the pretence that they've taken a thread down to "do some extra checks" or "look behind the scenes" or similar, when I've never known a deleted thread get reinstated.

UpMyself · 11/08/2025 14:24

@RockItLikeRocketFuel , some get reinstated.
I sometimes report a thread with no replies if it's by an OP who has had it answered elsewhere.

Parksinyork · 11/08/2025 14:26

MN is full of trolls. More than pre covid but certainly in the last year there seems to be way more. I believe a lot of threads which are left standing are troll post.

OoooopsUpsideYourHead · 11/08/2025 14:30

I think MN really struggle to stop banned posters from signing straight up again and starting threads, so they probably delete as soon as they become aware.

It's annoying but kind of understandable or otherwise what's the point in banning anyone?

What annoys me more are the "Deleted for privacy reasons" just because the replies aren't going the OP's way.

Especially when the OP has name changed anyway.

A huge number of trolls, advertising and fake posts

And threads which are overtly hate speech and will clearly just lead to lots of hate speech posts
