To ask if he will know it was me

Was in my back garden this morning and heard a man shouting abuse at someone from the house behind me. I could hear children screaming in terror and it went on for a while or what felt like a while so I walked round to the estate to check which number it was coming from and called the police. They asked me for my name and promised it would be anonymous. Sounds like things have calmed down but now anxiety has hit me. Have I done the right thing? Will he find out it was me? I just couldn’t listen to it without doing something but now I am afraid of consequences. Please be kind.

Sounds like there are several neighbours so there’s no reason he would know it was you. But regardless you needed to phone the police and have done the right thing

Kimmeridge · 10/08/2025 12:43

No, they wont say who called. They might phone you for more details but theyre not going to tell the guy who alerted them

Thank you, it was the children, I felt sick hearing their distress. Hopefully no-one saw me checking which house it was. God I feel sick either way.

Well done, op, how stressful 🥺

It sounds like there are a few neighbours so you should be okay, especially given that he seems like he was really shouting loudly x

You absolutely did the right thing and they won't be able to figure out it was you xx

ThinWomansBrain · 10/08/2025 12:55

well done for reporting - if it was that heated I doubt either party was thinking "I'll just tweak the net curtains and keep an eye. out for anyone walking by who might call the police and report this"
Hoping it was a one off

Fenellasbum · 10/08/2025 12:55

The house has plenty of neighbours so don't worry.

Thank you, really appreciate the reassurance. Feel so shaky.

Even if he does come around shouting the odds. Open an upstairs window and tell him to stop abusing his wife and kids and the police won’t need to be called.

You totally did the right thing. I wish someone had done this for me whenI didn't have the sense to do it gor myself.
