Not sure how to respond

I’m not quite sure how to respond to this situation and am curious what others think..

Just had an argument before husband started driving DC didn’t really know and was happily looking out the window while I’m sitting in the back too. He asks DC a question but they didn’t respond as they’re distracted. He asked me if they’re ok several times, I said yeah fine, every time, I did wonder why he kept asking, not sure what else I can say? Then he pulled over over to check..! I was shocked, why didn’t he take my word and why would I be sitting saying nothing if not?! AIBU to feel like this is a huge lack of trust?

I mean 'huge lack of trust' feels a bit OTT.

You don't say how old DC is but if it had been me in the front I would have been surprised with just getting 'yeah, fine' without further explanation or you interacting with DC to check they were in fact fine.

If I were in the back and my partner had asked me (certainly if asked more than once) I might have gone with: "Yeah, he/she is just looking out the window", "Yeah, I think he/she is just a bit tired... is that right DC?" etc. etc.

In terms of 'responding to the situation' I would be doing absolutely nothing! Did it really slow you down that much?

How old is dc and did you actually make it look like you were checking/listening?

Ultimately he was checking your child was safe and well. As an isolated incident I would err on the side of thinking if the suspicion that something isn’t right is there, surely it’s best to check?
