Sad that summer seems to have gone so fast

Does anyone else feel the same?

I always feel a bit sad when I start to see the Rowan berries ripening.
Means the summer holidays are going to be over and its back to school time. (Scotland)

I find going away on holiday speeds up the summer break. The week leading up to it is full of frantic activity and stress and our holiday this year is proving to be quite hectic (lots of family to visit). When we get home, I'm very much looking forward to some quiet garden jobs and painting fences whilst listening to an audiobook.

No because it hasn’t gone yet! Look out of the window it’s a beautiful eve

Just looked out, still pissing with rain!

It’s felt like a long summer this year. Early hot weather and my daughter started the hols early as she had GCSEs. It’s been lovely. We were able to have our holiday early July too, we caught the last week of the hot weather before it changed mid July so that had made it feel longer too, especially with the hotter weather returning now.

Most years it seems to fly by though so it has been a welcome change this year. The changes are noticeable though - darker evenings and the harvest in the local fields.

"It feels like the summer months whizz by far quicker than the winter months"

It doesn't just feel like it - they actually do. If you think about it, winter starts basically in November and it can easily still be freezing bloody cold and even snowing in April.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 09/08/2025 18:36

I live in London. It has been consistently in the high 20s since early June. I have numerous health issues that mean I don't tolerate heat, so I have spent the last 2.5 months hiding in my air-conditioned house. It has been like fucking lockdown for me! Autumn weather - or just 20-ish degree heat rather than 28 - can't come soon enough for me. No children, though, so school holidays irrelevant.

TeenLifeMum · 09/08/2025 18:40

It’s supposed to be 29 degrees here on Tuesday (west country). We usually go away early summer holidays so I’m all out of sorts going away next week. Summer isn’t over in my mind at all.

I don’t really mean weather wise, just in general…kids will be back at school in a few weeks 😔

Thank the Lord.

BIossomtoes · 09/08/2025 18:56

It’s gone really fast. My birthday is in August and it always feels like the fag end of summer once it’s over.

GRCP · 09/08/2025 18:58

I feel like it’s still the middle of summer. 3 weeks left of holidays and probably 2 months of warm weather

Yes, this is very true. We haven't had a great summer in my part of the UK either. Probably only about 2 weeks worth of nice weather all in so far...

Nope, I’m waiting for a book to be released 2nd September, the summer cannot disappear soon enough! I could also do with some rain asap, it’s so dry.

That the new Strike book?
I ran they’re good but not worth wishing the summer away for (if it’s that one)

frozendaisy · 09/08/2025 19:05

Just enjoying each day here

What? It's the 9th of August and more than a few weeks til schools go back.

Are you talking weather wise? Are you in the UK? Most areas forecast to be in the 20's for the next week.

Schools back next week in Scotland

I feel it too op. I want the world to stop. I have tried turning off my phone, emptying the diary and lying in the grass with my dc. Time to force a pause, and whatever you need to do - take some deep breaths. Make a top three of things you want to do with dc and do them. Schedule them in red. Make the time - whatever needs to be sacrificed. The jobs can all bloody wait.
