To ask you to help me with STD testing…

Hi everyone,

I need some help and advice please. I am completing some at home STD test kits through the NHS. I am going away travelling with some friends next week and aware the results might come back whilst I am away. If I’m honest, I am in a complete mess right now and don’t know how I’ll hide what’s going on (for many reasons, I can’t discuss this with anyone I’ll be with).

My big concern is, whenever I have had swabs done (for other reasons), I am often contacted to say I have a mild case of thrush. However, this is always asymptomatic and so after speaking to me, they always suggest no treatment. I must just have slightly high levels.

My understanding is that the app will update to say if my test results are negative but I will receive a phone call if they are positive. I’m just worried about receiving a call on this trip. I likely wont be able to answer it when in company, so would have to call back. My question is, are the sexual health clinic likely to phone me if the results are negative, but they detect thrush? Or would the negative results display on my profile?

It is highly likely all results will be negative, but if any are positive, it would have massive consequences for me. I don’t want to receive a missed call and then have that huge fear that it must be positive, if it’s simply going to be to tell me it’s thrush.

Sorry, I am totally rambling. Really appreciate any advice.

Also, I have previously posted about my situation under another username (trying to ensure I’m not outed).

Say to your companions excuse me I really need to take this call. Go somewhere private and take the call

Shouldbedoing · 09/08/2025 14:37

Or ask the clinic to email you because you are travelling

Thanks both. I won’t be able to take the call privately during certain periods of the trip due to the activities involved, but emailing could be an option.

I suppose what I am mainly wondering is - would they call me if there’s a sign of thrush? Or would the results for the tests come back on my portal as negative? This would save me any unnecessary panic.
