To go to an event after being off work sick?

I've been off work sick for a few days with a virus. I went back to work today (WFH). Tonight my friend is having a book launch. There is a slim but not impossible chance that I might bump into my workmates there. Do you think it's acceptable for me to go? It would be sitting down to listen to a reading to support my friend so it's a very sedate night out. I'm just worried someone will see me and question why I'm there if I've been ill. I was working today though so maybe I'm overthinking things?

I’d say if you’d had the day off sick today, YABU but as you were working, YANBU. Support your friend and enjoy ☺️

If you were working today you are now fit so do what you like. Don't go sick again tomorrow though!

You were working today so I don’t get how it would be unreasonable to go. Also, being off sick means you aren’t well enough to work, it’s doesn’t mean you are utterly bed bound. If you had a very physically demanding job you weren’t fit enough to do I’d say it still wouldn’t be unreasonable to go to this event as you’d be comparing apples (nice, easy sit down event) with oranges (a tough, physical job).

colleagues dont know what the nature of your sickness was or whether being at the event would have helped you recover (stress/mental health) or made you worse or make it look like you were skiving.

If youre well enough,and not contagious id go and if you bump into a colleague they can mind their own business

I would have communicated something that showed I was working - group email, etc - so that people knew I was back.

We had an online meeting today so everyone is aware. Glad to see it's unanimous! Not sure why I'm always worried people will think I'm skivving when I'm genuinely ill!
