To ask - anyone remember when computers were in McDonalds?

Also internet cafes - you don’t see much of them do you ?

I was in a McDonalds about 18 months ago near Derby and they had computers in for sure.

The internet is now everywhere thanks to mobile data, and we all have computers in our pockets.

Back in the day internet was dialup, and slow, some internet cafes had DSL which was faster.

Don’t remember computers. I remember when you could smoke in McDonald’s though, you could barely see from one end to the other due to the smoke in the 80s.

Do you mean iPads? Or computers? I remember iPads, it’s not that long ago they had them. My teens would have been 5-8yo. Don’t remember computers though.

They had i-pads a few years ago but never worked and were a hygiene nightmare. Probably phased out due to covid and to free up tables for new customers.

Yeah still iPads in at least 2 near me I’m aware of. Bloody pain as often only one or two are working, the kids are distracted and don’t eat cos they’re all gathered round the one functioning iPad waiting for some random 10 year old to stop playing. I usually try to sit far away or tell my kid that we haven’t paid to use them (she’s still young enough I believe that!)

Dont ever recall computers in McDonald’s but do recall internet cafes and shared computers in hotel receptions etc. very short lived idea due to the introduction of fast home internet and then smart phones!

Are we talking computers as in the ordering terminals like you get in Argos? I can't remember the year, but probably 8-10 years we've had ordering terminals in both McD and Argos?

I haven't seen an iPad or any other sort of computer in McD other than the terminals.

I've never known people to smoke in a McD and I have been going since the 1980s.

The McDonalds by our local Tesco, which only opened about 18 months ago has tablets for the kids.

I used to flock to them for the free Wifi when I was a rep.

We always do drive through but i remember recently through the window seeing ipad things screwed to a table with kids round it and thinking ugh - greasy fingers and picked noses and food ... 🤮

Re: smoking - no recollection of it in maccies in the 80s, but clearly remember the light from the screen showing up the thick floaty bluish haze of cig smoke over the heads of folk at the cinema 🤪

I remember smoking in McDs - including their branded ashtrays. They were a strong foil of a similar size of a jam tart foil tray.

No I absolutely don’t mean ordering terminal type computers!

That was before smartphones so people used to go into mcdonalds to use the tablets to check email/Facebook etc.

Seems simpler times
