Going from weekly to monthly pay- worried

I'm currently working for the Civil Service through an agency, so entitled to 0 benefits that permanent staff get and 0 flexi hours in this role.

I've been offered a permanent role in another CS department which is great. However worried about going from weekly to monthly pay, I do like weekly pay as there's never long to wait and you don't have that 'skint at the end of the month'

However worried about struggling financially whilst I wait for the first month of pay, I don't have a lot of savings to rely on.

Has anyone else done this and did it work ok? Maybe the CS could pay an advance?

Its tough! Get a loan/overdraft for half your monthly salary and go forward

I have never known anything but monthly pay, so this is very normal for me!

I set all my direct debits, mortgage and bills to come out in the few days after I get paid. Then, whatever is left over I mentally divide in 3 for the remaining weeks until payday again.

You might find it useful to put all your money into “pots” allocated for everything you need to spend on. Food, savings, entertainment, fuel/fares to help you keep track until you get into the way of it.

Does your employer offer Wagestream? If so, you can access wages early with a small fee.

Failing that. Similar to other replies, I set my direct debits to all go out at the start of the month. I have a separate Monzo account and what I do is leave the money in my current account for the bills and transfer the remaining amount to Monzo.

In Monzo I split my money by how many weeks until payday and put that into pots. I also have a pot of fuel and a pot of food shopping. I transfer money from my pots to my Monzo account weekly and use that for day to day spending.
